I thought my male had little or no undercoat, but now I'm not sure. His coat is long, soft and fine but he dries fairly quickly. In fact, he dries faster than my friend's standard coat. That dog soaks up water like a sponge and will stay damp for the rest of the day. Maybe Trigger is part duck :)

He might dry quicker because his coat is on the fine side. If your dog has undercoat, you can see it.

Maybe when I've got a little extra time I'll see if I can take some close up pictures of Trigger's coat. There's a picture on my homepage www.longcoatgsd.com but tough to see whether he has an undercoat or not. I do believe he is a true LC with no undercoat. My female Dana has also been called a long coat but her coat is much coarser in comparison and I believe she has an undercoat.

I looked at your site and Trigger's coat look a lot like my dog's did, I doubt he has much undercoat. The longcoated GSDs I've seen with the correct undercoat have coats that stand off from their bodies much like a rough collie. They look about twice as big as they actually are LOL. BTW, your dogs are very nice looking. I admire the solid black GSDs and I don't see nearly as many as I'd like to.
