Echomedows: PETA is certainly not a "right wing group". Their campaigns are waaaaaaay out there in the left field. While I found the video disgusting and sad, I tend to distrust PETA to put the full truth out there. Frankly I distrust PETA completely as I think their views and methods are skewed. This group is full of extremists. I do believe there's truth to it (the video) though as one person said "where there's smoke there's fire". And I in know way find this type of treatment acceptable to animals that we as humans should be stewards of.

David, I am surprised. You seem so sensible, and PETA is anything but. They have a history of selling multiple and conflicting pitches to donors, but their charter goal is the end of animal ownership. Since they lie day in and day out, and even many of their members are unaware of their fanatical bent, I would take anything they say with a grain of salt. It might be worth checking the information presented, since they are not likely impartial in their presentation. As stated earlier Iams has their own info on the same research. I suggest that everyone get both sides before embracing any radical claims.

PETA is listed as a terrorist group.

I am not a PETA supporter either - but it is common knowledge that Iams/Eukanuba does inhumane animal testing. I would never use or recommend any of their products because of this, and because of their inflated price tag for a "normal food with corn ingredient" - it is no better than any shelf-food - by buying their food, you are paying for their animal-testing, advertising and packaging. Not from me. molly

I have had dogs love Eukanuba and refuse Iams and vice versa....Go Figure. I guess their noses can tell a difference that we can't. As far as PETA goes, I learned in the 70's (dating myself here) to never trust extremists of any stripe. They all seem to have blinders on when it comes to truth.

Rightwing... is more of a phrase rather than a political party to me, It's just a phrase I use. If I have used it in improper context I appologize, please understand it is just a phrase to me. Again I will say me = NOT a fan of PETA However support the good things they have accomplished, Yes I do. they have brought some good legislations when it comes to slaughter practices, cruel confinement practices, and when Law Enforcement agency's have NOT STEPPED IN to prevent animals being tortured, neglected, abused, abandoned, and what not. PETA has successfully urged law enforcement agency's to DO THEY"RE JOB !!! around here you call the sheriff for help for an animal in the county... You are promptly told that there is no Animal Control here and there is nothing they can do, THAT IS SUCH A LIE, We have state laws here that cover the animals in Oregon, Oregon is listed in the top 5 states to have good animal protection laws, Our county just seems to have moved from Oregon, as our sheriff wishes not to "SPEND THE MONEY" He claims animal calls if they started responding to them would simply "break the budget for this county" So they ignore the calls the animals die and the complaint stops. simple as that. Horses are allowed to starve to death in pastures, dogs are allowed to starve to death on a chain, and the list goes on. I Wish PETA would step into this mess, and encourage our law enf. officals to uphold the State Statues. But again, I am not a fan of "extremist"

This knowledge has been around for a very long time. Yes, PETA stinks, but it is proven to be true. Even though this messenger is a wack job, do not discount the truth in this report. Debby

I want to start my post by being absolutely clear that I do not support animal testing that is cruel or inhumane. Sometimes it helps to understand such a definition before one goes further. The fact of the matter is that in this country and around the world, animals, including dogs, are used for research. There are strict standards in this country about how such research is to be conducted. Food research that is conducted specifically by the big companies themselves is not cruel or inhumane. The movies taken come specifically from the lab of one researcher who was found to have violated those rules and who was NOT conducting research directly related to the food, but rather injury recovery etc.. Unfortunately, IAMS (whose food I would never feed because of the ingredients) was found to have made a donation to the researcher, apparently without much followup about just what he was doing. Someone from PETA got involved and the facts got convoluted, to say the least. The researcher was penalized by the USDA for a variety of infractions. It is common for any large and reputable pet food company to conduct food research and all, including Purina, Royal Canin, Iams, Solid Gold and others have large facilities where foods are tested for a variety of parameters related to metabolism and energy and health and maintenance diet and palatability etc. PETA is a group that started out with good intentions but has now fallen into the hands of extremists. If they had there way, as has already been pointed out, no one could own a dog and any of you who kept a dog in any type of kennel for any period of time would be condemned. The internet is a great tool but sadly falls victim to people and groups using it for their own agendas. Most of the time, others who read are too lazy to learn the real facts. This is one such example. In my county alone, we have no animal control in the east part of the county for the most part. Why is that? It is all about budget. There is no budget for that enforcement activity because the PEOPLE do not want to pay the taxes to take care of this. None the less, when there are abuse or neglect cases brought to the attention of animal control people, they take swift action and people are held accountable. These types of situations can be dealt with if the PEOPLE of the county or your town or city or county, not PETA, step up to the plate and provide money for enforcement and make sure government officials know it is important to them.

I AM considered a "right-wing conservative" and PETA is as left-wing as they come...I DON'T SEND THEM MONEY, and aside from the animal cruelty ***I am NOT buying ANY dogfood with the first ingredient "ground yellow corn" or "by-product meal" ...and anyone who can afford it and cares about their dog won't. FIND A BETTER DOGFOOD. I have to agree with EchoMeadows - if there is ANY TRUTH to the video (which, I am sure Iams would have sued if there was not), I will absolutely boycott Iams forever. I find it ironic (and I am sure there are a LOT of politics regarding this) that Iams and Eukanuba always seem to be sponsors of the American dogshows. No wonder breeders don't protest - their dog might not get "Best in Show" this year and they might not get a fat check for being a "great" breeder either.JMO-
