Always makes me mad when people (especially liberals) think they are the only people with hearts, want clean water and air or in this case feel for dogs.

by EchoMeadows on 02 November 2006 - 02:11

It's not wrong to have a heart. it's not wrong to euthanize for the "right" reasons. It's not wrong to do testing that is humanely done. It's not wrong to slaughter for food, if it's humanely done. It's not wrong to disagree with any of the above, It's not wrong to agree with any of the above, It's all about perception and opinion Truth and Reality. Life = Death Death = Life figure that one out. But it's TRUE I believe there are right ways and wrong ways of doing things, others beleive any way it's done is all good. I think some of the work Iams does is probably good, but believe too that some of the work they do is NOT OK not for me anyway. I think some of the work PETA does is good, and some of it is shadowed by extremes. This is way tough thread, many emotions, (including mine) many views, which is good. And bottom line is we will have to agree to disagree on somethings, "Pick your battles and when you choose fight hard and with might like never seen before, and don't quit until your dead or the battle is won" that one is from me. I have learned this moto and live by it so far, LOL. We shall see how long it lasts :-) Honestly I love you all here, Hope you all know that. Have a good night see ya in the morning.

Once again the battle lines are drawn with little regard for the facts. As Hodie pointed out the study in question was not done by Iams, but was somehow affiliated. As for PETA they have well been shown to be criminals, terrorists, and deranged idiots. HSUS is not much better. On nutrition I am happy to say that I learned many years ago that "premium" is a euphemism for expensive crap. I once saw the inside of a HSUS shelter, and believe that if it were privately owned it would have been shut down and the operators imprisoned. Wet concrete floors, poorly ventilated, no natural light, tight confinement, etc. I subsequently had a candid discussion with my vet who is highly respected and knwledgeable. He stated that he routinely receives "referrals" of "neglected" or "abused" animals from HSUS. He went on to say that while they mean well they have no veterinary knowledge, and their referrals are usually baseless. The example that he gave was a boney horse standing in good pasture with clean and ample water. Their assessment was neglect leading to starvation. His diagnosis was healthy 29 year old horse that if she were fat enough to please the zealots would be lying rather than standing.

No matter how you cut it, most NORMAL people do not enjoy looking at any animals suffering. That there are even videos like this to be videotaped is saddening. The world that we live in is not a perfect place. Each of us can do what we are able to make it a little bit better and not worse. :)

Humane this is the key word here folks. If you wanna cut me up and disect me, fine! Just wait till I'm dead ok? I'm cool with euthanasea to end suffering. It's too bad us people don't have that option at the end. Heaven forbid I should ever suffer some horrific accident and have doctors keep me "alive". Everyone who knows me understands my stance on this. If my quality of life is not decent, don't keep me around for your own selfish reasons. At 16yrs old puting my 14yr old dog down, I understood this. Laying the blame Laying the blame Laying the blame... Overpopulation who do you blame? The breeders, the buyers who throw them away like trash? We could go round and round on that subject. It's like the chicken and the egg. However what do we do to solve this problem? We can't house all of these unwanted pets, until they die as Echo stated. If they can't be given the lives they deserve to thrive mentaly they are better served put down. Not a fact that makes me happy. I actually volunteered at a GSD rescue for a couple years and boycotted breeders even. I'm a sucker for the eyes I see when I am drawn to the pound. One of my current dogs is a rescue from the very place I volunteered. The other saved from the dog pound sentenced to certain death. He was horribly emaciated, had kennel cough, and is an "ugly" sable. I had the chance that day to walk home with a beautiful healthy black and red male. I left the beautiful dog because I knew someone would snatch him up in a heartbeat. Everyone including my own mother and daughter still give me grief about saving Trick. He has no ball drive whatsoever, he is the biggest sissy I have ever laid eyes on. He is allowed to be as sissy as he wants to be. Severly malnurished when I accuired him, barely able to stand, full grown large male at 45lbs. I had to take him home and bath him, Oh God terrible. I felt every bone in his weak body. I could envision him tied up in someones backyard, on a chain, not socialized in the least. Not the dogs fault, does he love me for bringing him back from deaths door? You bet your ass he does. I see it everytime those big brown eyes make contact with mine. Will that dog do anything for anybody but me? Nope. Does he care about anything but me? Nope. I am his whole world. Everything that dog has learned and done has been for me. People don't see that but I do. He doesn't have to impress anybody but me. We make eachother happy and thats all that counts. I have done what I can for homeless and neglected animals and I always will. I have a heart and voice I use for those who don't have one. Does that make me a fanatical nut job? I'd have to say no since I eat meat, hunt, fish (catch and release) because I don't eat fish, and I love a good mounted head on the wall. Lucky for these guys, they were long dead before they were cut into.

....Geez, you could almost swear it's wrong to have a brain. :o)~ Go BARF diet, it does the body good.

I was catching up on these threads last night, but too tired to respond and went to bed. Started to look at the videos, but couldn't---all this cruelty is just getting too much for me. I did read the captions, though. Just reading them was enough to make me sick. I also viewed the link that Videx recommended to visit. The Iams people put their money into research that was, at the very least, incredibly stupid. I have no patience to even try and understand them. In my mind, they are over. As for the other topic that evolved---Peta, Schmeta--It's all the same to me. How do you even just stand there and videotape this cruelty? I'm sure some could answer that---but, please don't bother. Since I don't really know much about Peta, I won't comment further. I'm sure there are well meaning people, as well as idiots involved (as in everything in life). But one thing I am totally sure about in life is that I despise censorship. I know there were more posts by DDR-DSH here last night. They should still be here.

Yes DDR had more threads but they were getting rediculous about cults and Nazism. You want a board with no censorship, build your own. Sometimes things need to be ommited to keep the peace. DDR was bringing up things with no relivence to the suffering dogs but bashing PETA. Doing nothing but starting crap.

by LMH on 02 November 2006 - 17:11

I disagree, 4pack. "You want a board with no censorship, build your own." I thought this was supposed to be a free board. And, when I read DDR's posts, I didn't have the same reaction as you. This whole thread deviated greatly. Bullying doesn't work with me. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Who made anyone on this thread *hall monitor*?
