Red Sable

Yesterday was the first time, after listening to my dogs heart, that a vet has ever commented on how slow it was.  67 beats/minute.
He showed obvious surprise, and told me I  have an 'athelete'
She is 4 years old.

Kind of cool!

They always listen, but have never commented either way that I remember.

Good luck with your athelete. LOL

I need to find some endurance races to enter her in.

I've never had a vet comment either way before either.

The normal resting heart rate for a large breed dog is between 60 to 100 BPM. My dog's normally runs between 65 to 70 depending on how relaxed she is when it is counted.

When I went in for my males 2 year OFA X-rays the vet commented on how surprised he was at how low it was. For a brief second it concerned me as he was still listening and staring off without an expression to see if it was good or bad. I asked what that meant, he looked up and smiled and said oh thats a really good thing, your dog is fantastic shape! I ddin't get the number though :-( I will ask next time

Is that right Blitzen?  She wasn't comfortable at all, as she dislikes men, so maybe he was expecting it to be much higher. :)
