I would download superantispyware.com and malwarebytes.com and scan your computer. Something is up if you can't update your OS.

Viewing photos on this site was only a problem for a couple of members who had ISPs who didn't or wouldn't update their DNS servers. 99% of members had no problems.

Can you view this pic?

No, I can't. And my computer was scanned to within an inch of its life two weeks ago when my e-mail program was attacked by a virus that copied my address book and sent out copies of itself.

Let me repeat again: This is the ONLY website I visit that I'm having a problem with.

lol, Are you sure you have gotten it all?

The pic I posted was not served from Oli's setup. I copied the html for the pic and directly posted it from http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/domestic-dog/ can you go to this site and see if you see the pic?

Direct link to the pic.

I'm having the same problem Sunsilver.  I was using an older version of Firefox (v6.0.2) and now no pictures.  But this happened on another site I visit as well.  Not sure what they are doing in upgrading the websites but they are upgrading it in a way that is incompatible with the older browsers.  I broke down and installed Chrome to view this site and can now view all the pictures and avatars on this website.  But this sucks as I'm a Firefox fan so hopefully Oli will take these issues into consideration during his upgrade by testing it with the older browsers.  The best thing going for this site is it's simplicity for the average user.  Oli please keep this in mind.  Nobody really likes to upgrade their browsers if they don't have to.

Also, I've noticed the "Newest Dog Gallery" hasn't updated with any new entries lately.  Now perhaps nobody has added any new dog galleries lately but since the site is being upgraded I would suspect this is a problem too.  Furthermore, while you're upgrading the site, could you please add an entire list of the "Newest Dog Gallery" that would show a list with pictures of say "the latest dog galleries added over the past 30 days" or something like that.

And of course, this is by far the premier GSD site on the web IMO.  Keep up the good work and don't forget to keep it simple as you always have.

There are security issues with never updating browsers.  I can see not having the absolute latest version but being 2, 3,....8 versions behind is probably not good and I wouldn't expect site owners like Oli to make websites backwards compatible while increasing their security.

VKGSDs, that is bull crap for the average user who may only view a few sites only.  I basically view Google News, MLB.com, NFL.com, Facebook, and this website.  Never had a security issue with any browser i've ever used.  And even if I did, never ran into a security problem that windows system restore points couldn't handle.  I even say those malware programs are a total waste of disk space as well since Microsoft OS's do a pretty good job by themselves.  And I'm still using Vista and love it.

Why not just let the browser update then?  It takes what like 30 seconds?  The type of security issues I'm talking about are not what your computer or your antimalware program deals with (I'm not talking about viruses and malware), I'm talking about compliance issues on the end of the person/company hosting the website and the security of THEIR servers and data.  Where I work we have some content that we are not allowed to provide unless we meet certain levels of compliance, so if our customers want to use our sites and services, then they need a reasonably up-to-date browser to access them.  If I'm spending my time and money running sites that other people can use for free (even advertise on) then you bet I'm going to keep things up to date and secure on MY end.  I've been in Oli's place and I think he does a great job and offers a great free service for us with little to no inconvenience on our part.

GSD, I can view those links just fine. Also the Shiloh folk just had their annual Homecoming (National) and I've been browsing all the photos with no problems at all.

I am disappointed that upgrading my browser to the latest edition didn't make a difference.

The upgrade won't revert the security and compatibility settings.  I would try another browser and that will tell you if it's IE or something with your computer or ISP as a whole.

I hear ya VKGSDs and on the more robust websites I am sure all of what you’re saying is very important.  But this is just a basic website where basic security on the hosting server is all that is needed.  More than likely, Oli just isn’t aware of these issues with the older browsers because he is probably using the latest and greatest of browsers in his database development.  And only users like us using the older browsers can inform him of these problems.  I mean after all, we are only talking about the pictures and the avatars not appearing.  I highly doubt this has anything to do with security issues.  As he upgrades his database, he needs to take are feedback into consideration as well as we are also acting as his volunteer QA testers.

Btw, I hate upgrading my browser every time there is a new upgrade because I just got used to the current version and most of the time they end up making it worse anyway.  I tried the newest Firefox recently and didn’t see anything astonishingly better than the version I have been using for only a couple of years now which really isn’t that long of time.  I swear they upgrade the damn things every 2-3 months it seems.
