Hello Everyone :)

I started feeding coconut oil to my dogs about 45 days ago.......I like the benefits so far.
The biggest improvement is in their coats (GSD and Chow X).......I'm seeing a significant reduction in shedding in both dogs and Cisco's course hairs are softer and thicker.
The biggest down side is the cost. I feed K9 Granola Factory PROCARE SERIES Organic Virgin. It comes in a 16oz jar. I'm feeding three Tablespoons a day between the two dogs. Needless to say the jar only lasts about a week and at $18.00 each it's getting painful to keep up.

Do any of you feed cocnut oil?
What brand do you use, how much does it cost and where do you get it?

I occassionally feed coconut oil...I get it from my mother who buys big tubs of it, I'll ask her where she gets it.

I make my own soap and I get it by the tub for the oils in my soap.

Hey Newbie:)....Been missing you in the Chat room.....We have a lot to catch up on :)

Is it virgin?
I've read you're only supposed to feed the pure (no added ingredients) virgin kind because of the processing.........Man this comment could go in so many different directions....LOL

Look on Amazon. There are many options for virgin coconut oil and some are free shipping. I do use Dr. Bronners coconut oil
for mine here these days, but will buy other brands of good virgin oil. Just one example on Amazon is Barlean's 16oz organ virgin oil $13 & free shipping, or Nature's Way 160z $8.72. Good luck.
I also have made my own soap for 14 years, and buy large tubs of oil, but would not use that for the dogs since there is more processing with it and a much lower grade than virgin.
Glad you notice a difference in your two.

Organic Coconut oil from Wal Mart $10.00 for 12 oz. Extra virgin organic.??  So, So price wise,   Just to let you know.  Nan

PS:  maybe price it on line??  Springfield, or Spectrum??  I'll check to see if you can beat that price.  Nan

also you could probably cut back a little, I do not use it everyday, every couple of days seems OK.  ??

I bought a jar of Nature's Way coconut oil. Eight bucks for 16 ounces on Amazon. Neither one of my dogs would touch it so I tried some myself. Did a nice job of cleaning out the 'ole pipes lol

I take it give it to my dog. Whole Foods, Virgin and unrefined. Organic. I think it costs about 7.00. Great for Omega 6 to add a good Omega 3 Chia seeds.

Coconut oil is one of the only medium chain fatty acid oils there is. Easier to digest and imo better than olive oil (which is long chain fatty acid) Great to rub on your skin. Makes it soft and a good moisturizer. Ive read several articles that it actually works better than gaterade for dehydration. Certain brands of coconut water are quite good.
