I had to look up EchoMeadows comment on HSUS to see what it is all about. I have done no less than six hard years of research and observation on the animal rights movement, and HSUS in particular, and you would NO WAY be wise to report anything in the way of "cruelty" to them, or any other self-professed "animal protection" organization, for that matter. Abusive trainers and handlers should be banished from the clubs, because these sorts of techniques are a blight on the sport and may eventually bring it all down. But calling HSUS to report "abuse" is completely counter-productive and even risky, in my opinion. For one thing, they are a big fundraising and lobbying organization, and not a lot more. They do not operate shelters. They do not provide any kind of perennial or ongoing relief or charity for homeless animals. They COULD, God knows, with all their millions, but they choose to use the money for fat salaries and perks, I think. They do show up at disasters and set up booths for the media and fundraising drives, but they were criticized by volunteers for what they did and did not do (specific to care and transfer of pets) in the recovery phase of the Katrina disaster. My experience is, that HSUS has little or no interest or involvement in prosecutions for neglect / cruelty unless they can help prosecutors behind the scenes, and in other ways boost and politicize cases to try to make case law which will further their agenda. Their self-professed agenda (or that of many people in their leadership, past and present) is to end the breeding of purebred animals, which they regard as exploitation. So, if you give them the rope, they will gladly hang us with it. DO NOT call HSUS! If nothing else, they have ABSOLUTELY NO AUTHORITY, and you have NO obligation to report ANYTHING to them! Again, they have no authority of law. They are instrumental in writing and promoting draconian laws which tend to single out breeders as a community for punishment. They ARE a big, Washington D.C. based lobbying and fundraising firm with millions of dollars in assets and annual income, and they don't always come out and state their intentions so clearly, but it is generally felt that they are against purebred dog breeders. You can read the statements and histories (Bios) of their leaders, such as Wayne Pacelle, the current president, and a guy named J.P. Goodwin, who recently "assisted" the FBI in the raid and confiscation / destruction of Floyd Boudreaux's dogs. I find this very ironic, since JP allegedly has been involved in domestic radical activism, himself. Sort of like letting the fox watch the henhouse, I'd say! Look on Activistcash.com and consumerfreedom.org, also the animalcrackers site to learn more about radical animal rights activism and what it is all about.

Thecowboysgirl, Check the Delta Society website for more information on service dogs. They have tons of information, FAQ, consumer info, as well as list of trainers which might be able to assist with finding a suitable dog for you. www.deltasociety.org

Sometimes adult dogs are available through no one's fault. People can find themselves in unhappy life circumstances that forces them to give up their dog. When that happens, that person may return the dog to the breeder to help them place the dog. It may be quite an exceptional animal with some good training, and it may already be spayed or neutered. Not a lot of schutzhund people want a male that is neutered. I personally would give such a dog away to a home as mentioned above, after I had called her references. If she requires a medical service dog, then she surely has some very good references, and hope that the references were honest ones. I empathize with those who have had bad experiences in giving good dogs to people who do not appreciate them. There is the saying "There is no good deed that goes unpunished". It is not always true, but it certainly FEELS true. Sometimes we go through adversity because we did a good deed or we were responsible people who did the right thing but find ourselves "punished" for it. Veronica

To the OP-try vonderteuth.com.  They breed unshakable working line dogs that are very social and sweet but extremely intense at what they do.  They have a bitch available that I love.  My daughter has this dogs brother and he is a dream.

If she costs too much, maybe Oldnewguy will help you out financially.

Best of luck,

dawg

Well, allabouthedawgs, as some members here are prone to say: "Oh yeah, why don't you do it?! Well?!

Oldnewguy,

I am only going by the philosophy you espouse in your posts.  Is that a problem?

And by the way, if you wouldn't have set yourself up as the "convictions nazi" this conversation wouldn't even be happening.

allaboutthedogs, it's not a problem at all, I'm willing to throw in a couple of hundred bucks into the kitty for this lady's dog if you match it. How about it, can you walk the walk instead of just being the board-nazi? You only wish you could match the amount I give to charity every year.

Gee, oldnew, if you're such a philanthrapist why is that your first post on this thread wasn't an offer of money? If you feel such a deep seated conviction to help those in need and general benefice toward the world, then why did you bust on a person who was offering what she had available? Namely an offer of her time and help? If you are so caring of other people why are you only willing to back up you bluster if some one else does? I suspect a very pronounced layer of bullsh!+.

Walk the walk? The difference between your situation and mine is you trash talked about your generosity and then didn't make an offer to act on it.  I never talked trash about a philosophical outlook.  That would make you a phony and me some one who hates to see well intentioned people maligned for no reason except simple arrogance of the attacker.

No harm no foul? I think it was a very foul attack on Echo. Judging by the other responses, I'm no alone in that.

Yeah, that's what I thought, more bullsh*t from you. I've called you out publically to put your money where your big mouth is and you come back with a bunch of crap. Maybe you should change youe name to allaboutthebigmouth or allaboutthemoney. You're obviously a bullshi*ter. Come up with the money I'm willing to put in or you've proved you're a big-mouth who can't back it up. And by the way I have no idea what a philanthrapist is, maybe it's somebody that rapes philanths. Learn how to spell. I'm willing to back up my words with money because all my life I've been around people like you that like to sit back and do nothing except criticize others and expect other people to carry the load. It's none of your business how I spend my money to help other people, but, since you want to make it personal then the public side is: I'll back it up. Will you? I doubt it.
