OK for all of you who are confused !!!! Go Now and Please READ the by laws of any "NO KILL" Shelter RIGHT NOW !!! Let me tell you, They DO Euthanize as well !!!! I am so sick of "KILL" Shelter being brought up makes me sick how little people actually know about shelters and by laws !! Truth of it is, we do NOT "advertise" "claim" to be NO KILL because there is no such freaking thing !!!! Period !!!!!! Can ya tell I'm a little heated about this issue, it pisses me off that these "NO KILL" shelters get all the support and funding, but still euthanize just like we do, By Standard we are NO kill, But we don't advertise it !!! NO KILL shelters can still euthanize for Temperament, Health, and Aggression issues. don't let them LIE to you anymore !! GET Yourself EDUCATED !!! and stop using "KILL" shelters as term, It's bullshit !! "NO KILL" shelters are a JOKE, they claim to not euthanize for "space" reasons, well ok lets see then when they get full what do "THEY" do, they reffer people to the "KILL" shelters ( your words not mine) so how responsible are they REALLY ???? It's a ploy to rob other shelters of deserving donations as well. They get the donations more frequently because they put the label out there "NO KILL" What a bunch of crap !! and sorry if this came off a bit harsh but OMG I can only handle so much stupidity/ignorance.

Echo, a similiar scam goes on with the mustang so-called rescuers. They are PAID to take mustangs. Delivery of the mustangs is PAID. Some rescue operations then also receive funds for facilities, too. Funds paid by guess-who-mr-taxpayer. Then, some horses still end up at slaughter houses.

Exactly !! See you know the truth :-)

We have so called rescue goups out here that rescue the animal's and after awhile if they can't find them a home they go to this nasty pound and euthanize them. This pound only keeps dogs with collars on for up to 7 day's, and then euthanizes them. The ones that don't have collars they can put down on the spot. Their cats they wait until they get a lot of them and euthanize them and sell them for $1.25 a piece. I try and send people there because it's really bad. But I do understand what your saying Echo, it doesn't matter how nice they try and make it sound, they still euthanize. I pulled a pit bull mix out of that pound and he's my GSD wanna be, and I would never give him up!!

I do not know if I would say shelters are trying to "scam" as is intimated above. The sad truth is folks that not all animals are adoptable. I can not tell you how often I get calls from idiots who want to dump their GSD and many of these dogs are over 8 or 9 years old. Not too long ago some jerk called me and wanted me to accept his 10 year old GSD female that had been in his family since 8 week old. His wife felt the dog just did " not fit their lifestyle" anymore. I can not take old dogs or even dogs with serious medical problems. I do not take GSDs who have bitten a person, are aggressive to people or other animals. The fact of the matter is such dogs end up being put down. When push comes to shove, no shelter can keep an animal for the rest of its' life. I have 5 GSDs and one mix here who I will have to keep for the rest of their life. Figure out how expensive that is! Figure out how many other dogs I might take but can not. My GSD rescue work has been difficult and personally challenging and very, very expensive. I am fortunate that I can set limits, even though sometimes I realize my limit might mean a dog gets put down who should not be. My work with my GSD rescue organization is EXACTLY why I am such a fanatic about breeders who breed and breed and breed and could give a damn about the dogs. A SINGLE breeder in my state has donated one time to my rescue to help with costs. Just guess how many breeders i know here who sell litterally 60-80 pups a year, not to mention older dogs. And most of the time when people are breeding that often you can be damned sure they are not going to take a dog back because "they do not have room". So yes, there are shelters out there and probably rescue groups who end up having to make terribly difficult decisions. I try never to take a dog I know I would just have to end up putting down. I have had to put my own old dogs down and it is always heartbreaking. So is seeing a pup sold to people who are not going to properly socialize, train and care for the dog for the rest of its life. We live in a disposable society. We live in a society that expects everything to be convenient and when it is not, drop it, or, in the case of a pet, get rid of it. Some of you who think this is so terrible should get a grip and find a local rescue or shelter and either contribute financially or with food donations or equipment or go help. Perhaps then you would have a better idea about reality.

What about Humane Societies? Just curious.

Thank YOU Hodie !!! ya if these nuts think that any shelter worker enjoys seeing these dogs go down, They're Bananas !!! No One in fact hates it more than the shelter workers. And the one with the needle in hand has the hardest time sleeping of all. I am lucky in that our shelter is pretty good size, However sometimes that makes it really really tough on me to get everything done in time to OPEN. Short on help or No help may mean we stay closed for the day, as I litterally will spend all day cleaning. And will not allow anyone in until all is clean !!!!! Anyway, We have the Luxury I will call it that we do not have to euthanize for space issues, We do however euthanize appropriately, Extremely elder, Extremely Injured (mortal), or Temperament issues. Can not even imagine adopting out a food aggressive dog and having that dog maul some poor kid. NO WAY, and thing is around here people are DUMB !!!!

We had a shelter that use to advertise no kill. Now they say they will hold dogs as long as possible but cannot guarantee no kill. Guess they had a scandal some years back that someone put a dog up for adoption and later either wanted to know where the dog was adopted to or wanted the dog back only to find out it was Euthanized. Big stink with the news ect. Now they warn people that euth is always a possibility. I agree with above, some dogs are not adoptable. We get calls every so often from people wanting to offer us the perfect police dog, yea dog has bitten numerous people. then they are upset when you tell them it would not make a good police dog canidate and they want to know what they are going to do with it if you won't take it. mike
