I don't know about switching pups. Look at the pedigree pic pup's wavy tail.

Hi to all, and thanks for taking time to reply!  I can assure all that there has been NO trimming to ears, or ANY part of this pup. I've had him since 4 months old.  Yes he has developed a much longer, heavier coat than when I bought him at 4  months old. the 4 month old pic here on pdb was done in Serbia by his breeder.  At time of purchase, he was definitely short haired. but over the past 2 months this is what he has developed as. Yes I'm not thrilled about this growth of longer hair, and if I had my druthers he'd be stock coated. I do NOT think that Fixfrutta would have switched pups, they have a very good reputation.  But in all, I'm happy with every thing else about him!

Summertime, I'm surprised the dog you posted only carrying the long coat gene.  Your dog looks fluffier than my female who I thought was LSC.

Well I guess time will tell what he will look like mature. I'd not worry about breeding him to short coated females, and I've seen many breeders who purposefully breed for long coats.  Some like them, some dont. I have noticed that Remo is producing quite a lot of long coated pups.

betoven is a long coat.
and he had ear inserts at some point.

Sitasmom- what makes you say he had ear inserts?? I've shown pictures in progression of him at 4, 5, 6 months old, and in all pictures his ears are perfectly erect.  When were ear implants in then? He definitely hasn't had anything done to his ears since I got him, they've been perfectly up since I got him so no need,  and on the pdb picture you can't see inside his ears?   his ears were up perfectly when I got him at 4 months, and have always been up since.

As for breeding him, I'm in process of doing DNA testing on my 3 import bitches to see which, if any, of them carry for the long coat gene. If not, they won't produce coats even if bred to one, so I could still use this pup on them and not get any long coats. So we shall see.

Perhaps Kim means the dog would have more hair in his
ears if no one had been messing around with glue and
tape ?  For sure, that could be an explanation why a 'coat'
has only the amount of hair in its ears that a stock-coated
dog would have.  But that would not last for more than a
month or two before the extra hair started growing back in;
and if you are sure his ears have had no 'help', rules it out
anyway.  I never   came across a 'coat' who did not have some
extra hair in its ears,  therefore I continue to say:  this dog
will finish up a standard coat, one which Americans will see
as 'plush', but it will not really be a 'correct' coat, it will be a
little too long and too soft, and probably wavy.  I hope CMills
will return to the subject once Betovan's adult coat is finally
through, and let us know !

He's had fuzz in his ears since I got him, but it's just the normal amount, and not long, so I'm pretty adamant that his ears never were taped/glued, or they would have been "bald" when I got him at 4 months old. He has had the same amount of it in his ears since I got him, no long hairs in/around his ears.  and yes I already had planned to post updated pics on him as he matures so we can see how he looks. I also find it a bit odd that a couple people on this thread have hinted that his ears have been trimmed. Why would I trim him, then post on here asking if he's coated?  that makes absolutely NO sense at all.  thanks

I didn't realize those were pictures YOU had taken, I thought they were from the kennel you bought him from.  and why did I say it?  Because it looks exactly like every other coated dog I've seen get their "stock" coat trim :)

@ zdog- the pic posted here on pdb with his pedigree was RIGHT before I imported him, and it was taken at 4 months old by his breeder. The rest of the pics, the ones on my website at 5 months old, and then the 2 shown here at beginning of this thread, were all taken by me. so he's not had any trimming done at all, cos when he came here his coat was completely short, so nothing to trim. Plus he's not got any of the long feathering on backs of legs, like all other coats have I've ever seen. HIs littermate sister at 4 months old had the long feathering on legs and in/around ears, he did not.  Again, it would make absolutely no sense for me to trim him, then ask for opinions on his coat length. I'm going to DNA him for coat length just to satisy my curiosity anyway, will share results when they come back for all of us to learn.
