thanks again kitkat, and I AM very proud to have him. Exceptional temperment, outstanding pedigree, easy on the eyes, and structurally sound. I wouldn't want much more.

OK< the DNA results are in, and as many of you guessed, he is a long coat. Carries 2 copies of the LC gene.  He looks like he will be what I'd call a plush coat, as at 7 months old he still doesn't have any ear tufts, or the long feathering on backs of legs.  I am proud to report that he is also DNA  clear of DM, which is much more important than his hair length!!  Just wanted to let you all know.  I will post updated pics next month, when he will attend his first UKC show. thanks to all!

Okay, he carries the long coated gene, so we now have that information
(as far as it goes);  and it sounds like you are not unhappy about that
result !   Now, where are the further and better pictures ?Teeth Smile

I am still reserving judgement on the quality, rather than length, of the coat ...
and will look forward to hearing about the dog as he gets older and progresses.

Very glad you have the good news about the DM result,  CMills, that's terrific.

Hundmutter- as stated above, will get the updated pics next month when he goes to his first UKC show. But I wasn't asking for a critique on his coat quality, only if he was going to be long coated.  And I'd much preferred he wasn't coated, but it is what it is! I'm just glad he's not a big hairy monger, more just plush coated.

I hate to jinx you, but he may well develop into a big hairy monster, LOL. Mine did- they looked normal, then at time to go home started getting fluffy, then it went away, then came back, full tilt! There were folks on here who swore up and down that they were not coated. I have learned to tell at 2 weeks to 3 weeks- if I don't see them then, I can't guess with any reliability. The best thing is to decide ahead of time you love him no matter what! I don't think any of the people who have my fluffies would trade them in if given the chance!  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=741148

Jenni it's gonna be really hard to decide to part with him now.  I'm currently in process of doing DNA on my 3 bitches to see which, if any, carry LC gene as well, so I know if they will produce coated pups if/when bred to him. That will be one contributing factor on if I wind up placing him or not. He has an excellent pedigree, and I was wanting a Remo son for quite awhile before finding him, so that part is everything I wanted in him. There may be someone out there looking for a well bred LC male, and don't think I'd have any trouble selling coated pups if/when I got them.  Big decision!!
