I recently acquired a bitch that first came off as submissive with both people and other dogs, who also had medium prey drive for west working lines. All of a sudden she is fighting other dogs that give her any threatening signals, even if they do not bite back (but they do scream), she takes them near the neck, shakes and will not let go. I believe this is predatory drift and not insecurity or a dominance issue... and I was hoping someone can tell me how they successfully treated their dog with this problem. Thanks.

I would do a full panel of bloodwork. Something sounds out of whack

Often they are insecure for a long while after they arrive, then when they feel secure, they start looking to up their rank in the pack. I've seen some behavior like that, though the dog did not act submissve to other dogs, but not alpha either, at first. Then she started working her way to the top by assassination....I just quit letting her run with the other female dogs, I don't want a fight to injure anyone. JMHO

Go to your local retail store and get the Dog Whisperer DVD. This will solve all of your problems if you are good at following directions. Good Luck

Never run with other dogs, I found out the Zilla v Weithurchen, my dams mom, killed a male during breeding and from then on the muzzled her when she was bred????? Her pups were loving and hard working, and never showed any of that, at least the one I had and the littermates that I kept a check on,,,,,,One of my females I bought at 2years, Nax Bullinger daughter, has killed another female, I was told, so I never let her run with but one male that I trust with her.....I never run but a pair , female and male and some are so robust and start a runkous, that I run them alone,

Nerve based aggression, insecurity issues and forward aggression. Low threshold where something very minor seems a very big threat. Stop letting her with other dogs. It will only get worse, as long as she finds success in being a bully. Videos don't fix this. She is what she is. Now you have to be smart enough to avoid these situations as the handler.

grimmdog might be right about where the aggression is coming from. None of us can really say without seeing her in action. The first thing that comes to mind is up front you were seeing avoidance due to "REAL PRESSURE" from the handler to repress the animal aggression. After a few weeks with you she said, ok game on! There is no reason to let her with other dogs no matter what the real issues are... Best Regards, Dennis
