Suzy, there are three main types of GSDs - you are going to have to decide what type trips your trigger - and there are a number of different things you can do with them. Were you wanting to get into the breed ring and/or performance events and/or protection sports?
You are going to need to decide what your realistic time commitment to exercising, training, and trialing is. Some of these dogs are couch potatoes and not good for much more than companionship and a walk around the block while the other end of the spectrum has dogs that are fire breathing crazy energy level dogs. The lower energy dogs aren't going to do well in performance events but are generally easy to live with as they aren't very demanding of your time. The higher energy dogs are very demanding of your time and energy and you will need to have a plan of action to do with them. These dogs generally do well in dog sport of all kind. For the most part, it won't matter to an intruder if your dog is a threat to him so long as it looks scary and barks. For that matter, any dog of any size that will bark at an intruder is a deterrent.
As for cost of a puppy, a ballpark figure is $1500 for a workingline or american showline, but can go up or down a bit depending on quality of dogs. The german showline dogs start at about $3000 and can go up significantly from there depending on the breeder.
As this is your first step into the world of GSDs, I would forget the breeding potential of the pup as you are going to have plenty of learning to do with this one. If this dog goes well and you have a much better grasp on the world of dog breeding, maybe you can consider a second dog for breeding further down the road.

Prices vary greatly depending on who your dealing with and what you want and I believe the lady could find what she's looking for without spending that kind of money.

I have no opinion on this thread. Plenty of people use the classifieds it is one of the most used parts of this site. I don't dislike you, I dislike some of the things you do but you personally - nope, sorry I am not that shallow to dislike an internet personality.

Thought so.........................................it might be a conflict of interest for a moderator to promote any specific breeder here.
As for this nice lady, she doesn't want the next world champion, or a dog that would eat someone's face off.
She needs a correct German Shepherd Dog at a fair and reasonable price and I believe I could help with that, If she returns.
i have the impression that she is an educated woman who can stand up for herself with out a support group to hold her hand.
As for you and I, well that's water under the bridge and if you have nothing further to add in the way of advice or opinion, then yes feel free to move on.
