seeing that these are the cream of the crop and the next VA's who out of the top 10 or even top 20 would you rate as your favourite as well as who would be closest to what the standard asked for as mentioned in this thread. I went through all these dogs and hondesty i am at a lost for words.................. not in a good way

ps: this is going to be steap, lol....

Well Waleed you may say that, but I just took a quick flick

through that SG list, looked at over half a dozen random dogs (plus,

deliberately, 2 UK entrants)...

and I did not see ONE broken topline / dog with a 'hinge';

did not see one photo where the dog has its forward rear hock

flat to the ground ;  did not see one where the dog does not look

'whole' and of a piece, rather than some stretched-out "two halves

stuck together at random",  nor any particularly steep croups.

So yeah, I'd happily say these are the cream of the next 'crop'.

At least as far as conformation is concerned, and for what can be

told about any dog from one posed still photograph.

Abby Normal

I've been watching this thread with interest....I have strong opinions about the curve/roach in modern SL, and I know that most disagree with me and say it's all in the stack, so I have just observed the (very interesting) discussion. It's funny how after a while it just becomes 'normal' to look at, even to me. Anyway, I thought there were a couple in there that looked a little 'hinged', but most were not.  One of the dogs near the bottom had a very nice topline for a modern SL that reminded me somewhat of Dingo (Oscar SSG9). But the thing that really did strike me, was that we are losing the classic GSD head shape and heading into rottie/mastiff territory. I know it's popular but I really don't like it. One dog in there had a truly horrible head. (IMO). Only a couple had what I think of as a nice GSD head, and not the new heavy browed, jowly, domed head. I did prefer the UK dogs (not just being patriotic) I thought they were less overdone, and had better head shapes, though in time I can see that we may head down the same path in respect of the head.  Sorry to digress slightly.

SG1-SG10

In sequence I like:

1. Gordon, good head, good tpline, slightly stretched, very good rear angulation

2. Djambo, good head, good topline, good proportions, very good rear angulation.

3. Basko, good head, good topline, good proportions but deep rear angulation

Yes Abby, I too thought some of the heads, on my random check,

were too heavy.  Not as bad as those Chinese dogs (!) but something

to watch for nonetheless.

Must have missed the 'hinged' dogs, as I did not have time to see them

all.  I'll take a more in depth look.
