TIG,
I did a ton of research on Alicia before we bought from her and we drove the 12 hrs to TN so to assume none of us, including the victims in this forum, is wrong.

NA7 I find it interesting that not one of you has actually answered the questions I asked.

To summarize - you spent over ten thousand dollars to buy 2? 3? ( your posts are a bit contradictory on this) GSDs w/ no papers. Worse you say you actually drove 12 hours to meet this lady and take delivery. Did you say - no papers no money? Did you say I will pay the price of an unregistered dog ($200-500 maybe) and sign a contract that when you deliver the papers I will deliver the money? Did you offer to put the purchase price in escrow at Paypal or an escrow company with the condition that the price would be paid the minute the papers would be delivered?

Also it seems that on at least one dog you were paying for the fact that he was Sch3 and KKL1. This now seems to be in doubt which makes me suspect that you do not know t what those qualifications really mean or know how to evaluate a dog that supposedly has them. Did you see him work before you took him home? Have you ever trained a Sch dog? Have you even ever been at a Schutzhund trial and know the skills that are required at each level? Have you have  been to a breed survey? Can you tell me what the difference between KKL1 a and 2 is and/or what might disqualify a dog from even being koered (breed surveyed)? Since you seem to not have sufficient knowledge to evaluate what you were buying did you ask for help from someone who did know those things?

Sorry  but I don't see much due diligence going on. I especially don't because you are claiming that this dog was purchased to do SAR. The SAR community is a very small dedicated community and also one that is fairly vocal about who are the  breeders that produce the dogs that work for them (and yes I know GREAT renowned SAR dogs and their handlers and their breeders). I have not once seen a mention of hunt drive and pack drive as qualities that you were seeking in this SAR prospect - qualitites that are absolutely essential to good search dog. A dog trained to track or trail that has limited or no hunt drive will not EVER be a search dog.

You have not shared your location with us - I suspect because you could have done much better locally - but you say you drove 12 hours to meet Alicia. Since Luray is 2 hrs west of Nashville and Hilham 2hrs east I'll just use Nashville as the Center point. 12 hours is a minimum of 600 miles at 50 mph this means you could live anywhere in the Northeast from on a line with Philadephia , or as far south as Orlando Florida or West to Houston and other points in Texas or north to Kansas, North Dakota, Wisconsin or northern Michigan. Since I don't know your location I can't speak to who is available locally to you but within that circle from Nashville there are some dynamite breeders. Try looking up Kathy Holbert in West Virginia and see what people think of her - her own skills and abilities in SAR, her training abilities and the the abilities of the dogs that she breeds. Then try that same search with Alicia Jordan and SAR and tell me what you get - that is how you START to do due diligence.

Please do answer my questions I truly do want to understand what goes into creating such a clusterfk but let me add one more. You claim to be training with world class SAR people - did you talk to them BEFORE you got a dog?

Is what Alicia has done right - NO. Is there any justification for it - NO. Does it hurt the breed - YES. BUT it is folks like you that keep these scammers in business. Step up to the plate and admit your role in this . You obviously lacked sufficient knowledge of the breed and of the purpose you wish to do with our breed. Help us understand your thought process - do a service to this breed because if we can understand what creates this situation then maybe we can more effectively educate against it - tho I for one am not terribily hopeful since often it seems to come down to I want what I want when I want it and don't want to wait to take the time to educate myself or have patience to wait for the right dog so don't fking get in my way or god forbid hold me responsible for my actions. Please prove me wrong - step up to the plate and answer why you did not buy locally - why you did not take the time to educate yourself about what you were buying!

Blaming the victim doesn't doesn't solve the problem.

by beetree on 09 July 2014 - 16:07

Perhaps not, but self-examination is beneficial if one wants to prevent one from becoming a victim, again.

TIG

Blackthorn, it is not blaming the victim to call a spade a spade. I find it interesting that NA7 refuses to answer the questions I posed ( nor any of the other "victims" for that matter) which to me is much akin to a dog with passing elbows but no hip scores - we all know what that means.

The reality is NA7 didn't do his homework, due diligence whatever you want to call it and now wants all of us to glorify his victimhood. a disturbing trend in this country . Well I will not since  I have no pity for someone who has created their own problem. This is not a "victim".  A victim is innocent  - they do not have a hand in their own destruction. I do not know what drives these folks - is it pretty pictures on the web, the idea that a "great" website somehow magically means a good breeder, the entracing sound of BS. I truly would like to know what drives them - thus my questions which have  been met with stunning silence. But all we hear is woe is me nothing about how they attempted to learn about the breed or the job they wanted their dog to perform and what the requirements of that job are and what qualities a dog needs to do it It takes time to learn these things and time seems to be what no one is willing to invest in.

God gave us gray matter so we could add some discernment to our decision making. As I noted above - don't see a lot of that going on in these situations. It's time NA7grows up and takes  responsibility for his part in this . Again as I noted above, scammers stay in business because of willing "victims". If he had taken the time to educate himself, do you truly think we would be dealing with all this drama??

NA7 - I'm  a very careful reader and writer - please enlighten me why you think I'm totally confused.

by NA7 on 10 July 2014 - 10:07

I did educate myself TIG. You obviously are not a careful reader because most everything you have said in the situation with Alicia Jordan is inaccurate. Plus, there are many other people involved than just us. To ultimate point in creating these posts is to stop these scammers so obviously none of us are willing victims. Instead of criticizing each person who is trying to help avoid others from being scammed why don't help spread the word and maybe that will help someone else or another dog from being a victim. Also, this post is about another breeder and other victims of that person so you should have some respect toward them and stay on their topic and stop calling people out to make useless points when you aren't getting your facts straight in the first place. I won't be responding to you anymore so blab on if it makes you feel mighty to yourself.

I myself feel it is a good thing to expose scammers.

This does not only happen in the dog world, christ, watch the peoples court, or any of the numerous court shows being aired daily. MANY PEOPLE ARE JUST FLAT OUT CROOKS...

You can do due diligence,  and still get taken,

People get flat out lied to by businesses,  every single day, be it buying a dog, or a house.

I don't know why basic contract law is not a necessary course taught from grammer school. People are fundamentally ignorant in this area, and it is a necessary element to everyday life.

Three times that I bought dogs for thousands of dollars, I was very fortunate that I found honest, ethical breeders to deal with, I learned of these honest breeders right here.

I also sold to a breeder I met here, that very much fooled me, and, unfortunately,  my pup is who paid the price for that error of judgement.

I cried many nights about my mistake, having nothing to do with a monetary loss, but the well being of my dog. Another valuable lesson learned.

Education is very necessary to protect yourself these days, and our dogs!

I disagree with your disagreement of my post seeing as you continue to avoid clarification. Do explain how self examination is not valid because one claims blamelessness as a victim?

We did not have a like/dislike button then many wanted one, you got it.  Then we had many complaints because some of the members just stalked those they disliked and would dislike any and all posts of their target, the like/dislike was removed.  Many of you complained and wanted it back, you got it but this time with a name so that perhaps the stalkers were slowed down.

I do not think that the name was added so that a poster could then single out a person who disliked their post and make comments directly to them, and I have a problem with it being used in this manner.  Members have a right to not agree with a post and not be singled out for it.

Yes if you see that you have been disagreed with you can ask why but leave out a persons name and do not make snarky remarks to or about them.

Asking for an explanation is fine, If you don't get one be big enough to leave it alone.

If you wish to comment on this do it in a PM, does not mean you will change my mind but open for ideas. Do not post your likes or dislikes to me here do not argue the point here

Now lets try to stay on Topic
