Malamutes have and produce light eyes, dark eyes, and all shades in between including hazel depending on their coat color.

Question for Blitzen; If the op's dog was an f3 or greater ( as one poster here assumed) , would not the mal characteristics have more influence, since the mal is a very old breed compaired to the relatively new gsd breed? Characteristics like the tail length and carriage, body build, head type? I have seen dogs used for pulling freight that are based on mal and that breed seems to stamp it's characteristics on the consecutive generations.I had a malx sib female, no bigger than a sib who I used in my team in swing position. She was very mal in proportion but had the sib temperament and brains.
To the op, I boarded a gsd years ago which was proportioned as your dog is....the owner's vet neutered him when he was only four months old. The litter mate dog, owned by their son, was not neutered and was of normal proportions. What matters is that you and your family have a dog that fits in with the family and that is priceless.

Sorry joanro, I don't assume I base mine on first hand knowledge.

How many GSD MAL crosses have you owned?

@Blitzen, right, the color can be "anything in between", but that's not to say a cross Would HAVE to have lighter eyes, because its malx.

Yes Blitzen, I can't wait to hear you tell Joanro how old and ancient a breed the Malamute is compared to the GSD. Angel Smile

"and 2004 DNA analysis shows that Malamutes are one of the oldest breeds of dog,[10] genetically distinct from other dog breeds."

"The Alaskan Malamute is a member of the Spitz group of dogs, traced back 2,000 to 3,000 years ago to the Mahlemuits tribe of Alaska."
