I've never heard the phrase "Mace bulk."
I have heard them referred to as Guofu Quanshe, however I believe that is the name of a well-known kennel, not the breed-type. Here's a breeder's gallery of their dogs: http://www.zgmyqzx.com/ln/. (Mainsite is http://www.zgmyqzx.com/, but their graphics are a bit too guady and difficult to navigate for my tastes.) They also have a video of their dogs on this page: http://www.zgmyqzx.com/Vip1/Default.aspx?id=340 Proof in loose-skinned motion these dogs are not the result of photoshopping.
This is not a new trend. They've been breeding this style of dog in China for several years now. This is the website for another breeder of these animals.http://www.guofuqy.com/.

I say its Akita. This was discussed on another GSD forum not that long ago. I rather get an Akita if I wanted to get a dog with that type of face and head structure.

Honestly, how long do you think it would take to produce these overdone heads and bodies by only breeding GSD's with heads and bodies like that? I'm guessing not more that 4, 5 generations and there would be no need to introduce other breeds into the mix. Most members here are always moaning about how the ASL breeders have refined their dogs to the point that is hard to tell a male from a female at a distance. That can cut both ways and apply to German dogs too. I wouldn't bet too much money that these are not purebred GSD's selectively bred for this look. I'd love to see a certified pedigree.

Add dewlaps and heavier flews and what do you have? Really?

There are more.
I'm guessing Cimi is in China? Anyone know?

If Akita was in the mix, it would not be so easy to maintain the gsd color...there'd be a lot of white to get out using Akita. The Tosa are self colored red from what I've seen.

You probably get curled or gay tails with Akitas too. That's a dominate trait in the spitz breeds.

This is Cimi a couple of years ago - he was sold to China in the age of 2.

Cimi must be popular in China. He has 566 progeny listed here and I assume that's not all of them. I didn't realize there were many GSD's bred in China.

Take a look at the offspring - "normal show line dogs". ( For some years now they are importing working lines, too...)
German Shepherds are very popular in China. For almost 25 years they bought and bought, now they use their own bitches ( even their own studs )and start to show their own good (!) dogs over here. They are learning fast...
The "mace bulks" are new.
