Good Morning,

I was wondering where to buy a progestrone test online? I have found a couple of places but they sell 12 kits at a time. Is thsi normal?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Yes, that's quite normal. It's not exactly a one-and-done kind of thing.

Especially if you have a female that doesn't have a "normal" cycle.  It is worth spending the money and mapping her cycle.  Other wise the aggravation level will be high.  The expense of taking her off to breed and it doesn't take because timing was off can be rather expensive.  Trust me on that one.  First hand knowledge.

I've never seen home progesterone test kits online.  They all require a blood sample that has been run through a centrifuge.  Most test kits for dogs are sold in packs of 12 or more.

Thanks for the replies. I talked to my vet and she will have some here in time. This is one of the down fall living in northern Maine.

Jyl... the link for LVS doesn't work.  It looks like they may not be available still.  The ovulation pads may help indicate ovulation, but won't give progesterone levels.  I, personally,  want to see the progesterone levels rising above 5ng and definitively marking that ovulation has occurred.  Perhaps I'm just picky like that ;)

I have successfully used Premate by Camelot Farms for years to increase probability of conception and to increase litter size.

Read the information and be educated. They will ship to you. Draw the sample and perform the test, read the results. Repeat if needed. Know your female has indeed ovulated.

This is the results on just 1 of my females, Just to give you an example, Ru was not tested and produced 4 pups. Next time I waited until she ovulated (she was standing early and NOT standing by the time she ovulated) I had to muzzle her but had 10 puppies! I skipped a heat then I did not test her and had 4 puppies again. I skipped two heats, then tested her again and just had a litter of 9. Very cost effective in the long run.

Thanks for the information Redwoodruns. I did call and talk to them nice people gave me a few pointers. But my luck they don't have any test at the moment she expects them by Monday and she said they will have to test to see if they are good.  Has anyone use the brand Target next generation canine ovulation kit? Their price is 85.95 for 12 test kits. And the site I found is www.Exodusbreeders.com  has anyone use this company before?

Of course I talked to my vet and for some reason she said they have to buy a kit of 12 and it will cost about 269.00. She said she would order it but if I can find a better price I should pick it up.
