Dog1

by Dog1 on 11 October 2014 - 01:10

Here's the difference. Last week the results were posted real time. If you entered your dog, it's placing was recognized and your friends could congratulate your accomplishment as many did. What we have today is winners posting their own succes. There's a difference between being congratulated and having to congratulate yourself.

The results are posted on the NASS Website for the Puppies, Young Dogs and the Protection Evaluations.

Did I count the final tally in the working classes right?  8 females and 9 males?  Seems like local conformation show numbers more than a Sieger Show.

I went to the website. I'm too dumb I guess but I saw no mention of a place to find a result.

There are 7 females and 20 males in the working class. I think there were 4 VA females.

Dog1 hits the nail on the head. For me at least: If I had any entries in NASS this year, I'd like it if people could see how well (or poorly) my dogs did. If my dog failed the bitework, I wouldn't have to wait for other folk to ask "so, how'd s/he do?" and relive the walk of shame all over again. Conversely, if my dog excelled at everything and placed 1st in his/her class, I'd honestly feel like I was being an attention seeker saying "hey everyone, look at me!"

As for what Reggie said, I too have friends in all venues of the GSD work, from working lines to (gasp!) AKC lines. I like being able to see the show results, to be able to call or email one of my buddies and say "Congrats to you and Kilo!" or offer sympathy: "I saw poor Mila didn't place, that's too bad :("

The problem I have with NASS is not who's in the show, but how the organization's run. It's supposed to be a national public club, but it's being run like a private fraternity. You're either in the know, or you're not.

It's billed and touted as the premier GSD event in the United States. Yet the cryptic hoarding of information does not give a warm, and welcoming feel. Even some of the AKC invitation-only events I've been at have better publicity than NASS.

NASS? It's not an exclusive venue. Why then are the results, the entrants, and event details not being circulated as widely as possible by the hosting organization to promote the quality of their entrants, celebrate the sport, and make it accesible to old-doggers and newbies alike who might be wondering "hey, what's going on here?"

It doesn't give an inviting feel. And while there might be club animousity between different GSD groups and factions, not everyone's a jaded old player who has been in for many years. There's a lot of eager newbies who ought be encouraged by any organization (WDA, GSDCA, UScA, AKC). Everyone has to start somewhere. But a club that doesn't freely share entrants and results of their main event show is not exactly an inviting place to start.
