Seriously is this a surprise to anyone??? As a novice that only reads the stuff going on I knew the results months ago. I can only suggest as an analyist that the biggest problem is the German Judges (for hire). This has nothing to do with the quality of the dogs but definitely helps the marketing for the kennels in business. This is all about judge for hire to promote your dogs.

jmopo a shame to the dogs, the breed and those thinking dogs from these kennels are quality because of the awards they win.

Momma you say you are a novice and weren't there.  So why such strong feelings?  Paxx was ranked V29 in Germany this year as well as VA2 in Switzerland.  So I would say his ranking is right in line.

Reggie, I don't think the VA2 position is the one that momma is alluding to.

I wasn't in attendance at the GSDCA-NASS so I find myself  in a bit of a quandary when I review the outcome.  I could not avoid looking at the VA placements.  It appears that 5 of  the 11 animals receiving the coveted VA rating all turned out to be wearing the Wilendorf kennel name. Some activists with whom I have talked over the last several months had forecast a result similar to this but unlike some,  I don't want to imply or insinuate that a FIX was really in. However, since I was not there to observe the competition,  I find the final result somewhat disconcerting. Frankly, I hope I am wrong by even having any question about the outcome, so those of you who saw the competition will hopefully  provide your insight into the actual competition.  Can anyone assure me that those Wilendorf dogs were really that much better than the competition? If they were that much better, then I offer John and his team the highest compliment any breeder can receive. If they were not really that much better than the competition, then shame on those making, allowing or arranging for those Excellent Select awards.

This country has had a wonderful experience. We have had 3 Sieger Shows to enjoy and highlight our wonderful dogs. Hopefully the next few months will provide an opportunity for us to put away our differences and displace those who seek fame and or fortune from our beloved breed. The German Shepherd Dog is more important than any of the  individuals who may clamor for that fame and fortune. Let's all chose to cast out those scalawags and opportunists who cause our organizations so much grief and undue discomfiture. If those nere-do-wells want to feel important, let us encourage them to find another venue for them to display their greed, avarice, narcissism, disrespect and incompetence. Hopefully, those of us who actually love and respect our breed do not want, need or intend to tolerate those good-ole-boys who have brought so much undue embarrassment on our country..

Most people assumed that it was a political show and did not attend. I believe a minimum of 6/11 va rated dogs belong to WDA Board members

that isn't necessarily political especially if they were already VA rated dogs.  You can find conspiracies any where  if you look.  The problem is it don't always exist  where you see it.

Reg, are you sure about that?

I was there, Willendorf females are placed as they should have been. They were obviously a cut above the rest. One new VA female was awarded. Same with the males, dogs that were already VA stayed that way and one or two new VA's were awarded.

The judges respected VA placements from previous shows and then added a few new ones. This is quite normal.

Protection phase was very fair, grades were also fair.

The atmosphere of the show was friendly, and many had a wonderful time. Judges dinner was very "family like", and well attended.

Friday night a terrible storm blew thru, the vendors' booths were blown apart, and their wares were blown everywhere. When people started arriving Saturday morning, many pitched in to help the vendors sort everything out and helped to get the booths set up again. This is how the whole show was. Happy people helping each other. More experienced teams helped prep dogs before the ring of inexperienced owners. Visitors were welcomed and left with a much better understanding because time was taken to help teach them. At the hotel, once again, the atmosphere was happy, helpful and welcoming.

I was a volunteer, my dogs placed as I expected, last (pup with no ring training)  and second to last,  had they placed higher, I would have complained about "insiders" being given better places. But this didn't happen.

I had exception on the placement of only 1 dog in the entire show, but it was a previous VA, so it stayed that way.

The judges have are the ones doing the placements, not the owners. The top 2 judges in the SV system. They have their reputations to think of..... Is smaller shows (all shows in USA), if they place a dog incorrectly, it is obvious and they lose credibility.

For instance.......... in Open Males group, the 1st and 2nd dogs changed lead a few times, at one point the second pace dog broke gait (went down on its front for about 20 feet) The judge noticed it and it ended up in 2nd. This was very fair.

Dogs with "hinged backs" and "soft hocks" were called out and placed lower. In progeny groups, a particular dog was producing soft hocks and was called out, it was also called out during the show critique.

Several of the people that attended the show a week earlier said they would never enter that one again. Others also said they would be changing their memberships in the coming new year, their comments included "very fair", "feel welcome", "no politics", "upbeat event".

IMO - its easy to complain if you didn't attend to the show!

Wilendorf is a very large kennel, they entered a large number of dogs. Their breeding program turns out some excellent dogs. I'm not a huge fan of John, but his dogs are a cut above. His dogs are in excellent physical condition, they are well trained, simply out-show many of the others.

Globalhaus also entered many dogs, but due to a family problem was unable to attend. I would have like to seen how that would have affected the placements.

Its easy to criticize if you you don't attend.
