beetree said, "You have no idea what you are talking about the PTown gay culture before AIDs, which I do."

I went to UMass so I am well aware of PTown. But, I didn't question what was or wasn't going on there at the time but rather you implying that it represented all gays and/or gay culture.

I also think the very concept of gay culture is absurd. It's up there with terms like black culture. I know there is a new trend among alt-right types to mention white culture, which is just as silly, as well as a lie, since there is no such thing.

Beetree, you and I will have to agree to disagree on LGBTQIA.  It is not worth the time spent since we both have our minds made up.  I have good friends in the community and see what they go through, especially now with all the idiots believing President Elect Trump gives them a free pass to hate (not saying Trump is advocating it, just his election is giving the idiots the idea hatred is ok).

The good thing is we agree on so many other things so hope you are enjoying the season.  Christmas is my favorite time of year.  Unfortunately, in FL, we do not have the wonderful opportunity to have a white Christmas unless we go to the beach to see the white sand which is suicidal this time of year with all the tourists.  Does heavy fog count as a white Christmas since this is the time of year when the Gulf coast gets tons of fog.  Take care and stay healthy, give the pups hugs.......🐾🐾🍻🎄

beetree said, "I commented on the media stereotypes for a gay marriage on a popular TV show."

The problem with this statement is that it hasn't been proven true. What is true is that it is a marriage between gay men (I don't like the term gay marriage). Does the show try and portray that particular marriage as typical? Well, that is beetree's job to prove.

Also, who cares if people question their sexual identity? What does it even mean in the bigger picture? Let's argue over the letter Q as if that will change the world.

@mindhunt, I believe that gays do indeed want to mirror marriages between heterosexuals as those marriages are today, that is to say the whole traditional roles don't really exist as they once did. I think if we start saying that "gay marriage" is somehow inherently or fundamentally different than "heterosexual marriage" we risk diminishing it. I mean, what's the definition of wife other than a female spouse? It doesn't imply a particular role or behaviors, at least not anymore. So if someone says that one of the men in a marriage between gays is the "wife" what does it mean? If we say it means he stays home and takes care of the kids then we are saying that all wives do that which we know isn't true.

@Mindhunt OK, that works for me! Deck the Halls, and all that, too!

@Noitsyou You will argue about anything and everything. Have you ever lived and worked anywhere where being heterosexual was to be a minority, I am guessing unscientifically in a ratio of about 4:1? How nice you went to UMass. Always feels like I won big with the slots when I learn something new about you. Did you ever hear someone say, "PTown is the San Franciso of the East". What does that mean to you? I never said, "All" but I would mean a microcosm as in a slice of the whole.

~~~Good thing I know how to spell my own name, just so I can have something solid to show as being true and correct after living life, so far.
Now, let me rephrase and hopefully be able to correctly state: I truly believe the media TV show Modern Family portrays Mitch and Cam's marriage in the light of some stereotypes seen within an old fashioned, hetero-marriage relationship. Cam stays home to care for the baby (traditional maternal role) also, Cam works as a part-time Clown, (Ding Dong Avon Calling), make-up is so much fun and you can earn money too! And guess who is the sensitive and emotional one? Cam. And then we have breadwinner (traditional paternal role) working long hours outside the home, that would be Mitchel, who is often oblivious to the fussy details that bother Cam and certainly not demonstrably affectionate, not unlike many typically unemotional, non-demonstrative testosterone driven beings. Their relationship works because their devotion to each other overcomes lifes trials and tribulations.
These observations of mine do not in any way mean they also don't at times, also display typical homosexual stereotypes as well, especially in portrayals dealing with their social lives with other homosexuals. And of course there are some contradictions to all stereotypes. It is a TV show for entertainment, in the end.
Feel free to not understand any of the connections I have made. It won't bother me at all, nor change my own thinking on the matter.
It doesn't matter whether or not someone has a lot of experience being around gay men. To take that limited experience and use it to make broad assertions about a group of people is wrong. I lived in a city which was predominantly black and poor. I don't state that what I saw, and I saw some crazy things, was representative of blacks in general.
Here's the problem with your Modern Family analogy: Cam, who you say is portrayed as the traditional "wife" is also physically superior to Mitch. He played college football ("manly") whereas Mitch was no good at sports and the one sport he did try was figure skating ("girly"). Cam has had to rescue Mitch from physical confrontations, again the "manly" role. Cam grew up on a farm ("manly") while Mitch spent his childhood dancing in his room to Madonna. So Cam, although he is portrayed as more sensitive and effeminate, is also braver than Mitch (Mitch panicked when a bird flew into their house), he's not afraid of things getting physical, and he is also better when it comes to manual labor. Cam also works as a gym teacher and football coach. And Mitch's issues with being demonstrative have nothing to do with being a man as he shares many traits with his sister. It has to do with how he was raised and the fact that he hid his sexuality for a large part of his life unlike Cam whose parents were more supportive when he was young.
It's also funny how you berate others for not having open minds then write this: "It won't bother me at all, nor change my own thinking on the matter."
What are you calling limited experience? You don't know what my experience is. I noticed you conveniently didn't answer my question and negated the concept of microcosm. How unfortunate for you. If you don't take your own personal experience into consideration when forming your opinions, I think that is absurd. Please know that I always will. I have faith in my judgments, bottomline.
I covered the football angle in my second paragraph on the subject, I knew you'd seek to negate what is a stereotype with what isn't. That is not meaningful, when specifically talking about the gay marriage aspects that are drawn on the typical hetero norms. Is my portrayal correct in any sense? Isn't it what is wanted to be seen as a way to normalize male same sex marriages with a child by the tv screenwriterss? I see a correlation, you don't. Oh, well, I showed you some specific answers in the alloted time I have to give to this endeavor, and you still won't try to understand what I mean as a point. Typical, expected, but still, it won't stop me from knowing a pattern when I see one.
Interestingly enough, the statistics tell us it is a lesbian couple that will be much more likely to have a child. Don't forget that the portion of the population being discussed is quite tiny when compared on the whole of the USA population, and even between the married populations. I just looked that one up. Lesbian marriages by far out number male gay marriages except in a few zip code areas based on joint tax return filings cross reference with SS data.
You can certainly try to change my mind, but knowing your attack methods pretty well, it will be an uphill battle for you. You start off negative and only get worse. I have tried to be fair before, and it doesn't work with you. Therefore, good luck. Better yet, just give up. I don't care.
Women are busy knitting like crazy for the Pussyhat Project. Pink knit caps with perky little cat ears they can wear in protest of Trump. They hope to reclaim the P-word, too.
LOL. When did we ever lose it? They have 60,000 knitted so far, and want the entire 200,000 expected marchers all to have one.
Wearing cat ears as an accessory has been a fad by the younger crowd in China of late, too. Though that has nothing to do with Trump. Soon we will see them everywhere!
"LOL. When did we ever lose it?"
When did you ever own it?
by beetree on 14 January 2017 - 03:01
That was supposed to be profound, I suppose? How are you at knitting?
