Saw someone with a "Mal" - said something about it and he said actually it's a Dutchie. It was light tan (fawn?) with a black mask. As Mal looking as they come. Also saw a littermate that was brindle. Can Dutchies be tan? Or are they always Brindle? Is it true if each are born in a litter the tan are Mals and brindles Dutchies?

I think its a matter of opinion. A cross between a Mal and a Dutchie will result in typically more Dutchie colored pups than Mal colored pups. To me if they are fawn with no stripes then they are Mals and If they have stripes then they are Dutchies. This is why in Holland you see the X-Mal or X-Dutchie which means it is a cross. So the dog you saw was a X-Mal. To me this being picky. As long as it works............. :)

Actually, even in registered dutchie litters, malinois colored dogs pop up. Regardless of what people say, most dutch shepherds have Malinois in the pedigrees. I have heard theat some FCI show line dutchies don't, but they are rarely considered working lines.
