this male does not have anything but black/red or tan lines, that i can see , are you sure there was not another stud that got with your female?

not my dogs or litter.  I was asking for other's opinion on this breeding.  I doubt the dog carries for solid, but if I voice my opinion to the other group this was posted on,  they seem to think I am an unhappy person looking to cause trouble with others.

I just can't see this male throwing solid puppies.  and I would suspect a different sire to the solid pups.  I just hope the DNA is done on this litter before the pups are bred.

Well....if you go by Mendel's theory then there shouldn't be any solid black or blue pups.  There would have to be some sort of genetic mutation.

Hi, in other breeds such as Pit Bulls, Mastiffs, etc. the color blue is a recessive gene caused by a mutation of a black & brown genes mixing. Most dogs require 2 layers of very dark brown color codes of DNA for each hair to create the black color, either for solid blacks or black parts on the body. Sometimes the the DNA code is mixed with a under layer of light brown / white, with a black color code above it giving the impression of silver or blue colors. This is caused by mutated genes, can been as silver or liver colors.

perhaps more than one male got to the female? there are documented cases of a litter being comprised of pups from different fathers?

But as we don't know the circumstances around how the female was kept during heat  and what other males could have possibly had access to her it's all really just speculation.....

I pretty much believe what Malcolm stated that the solid pup in my litter would have turned black and tan as it got older.

I just wish he'd have lived as he was definatly a curiousity.  However there is still that question as to why he was born solid.

I know for a fact my bitch wasn't got at by another male, the only other male on my premises at the time was neutered and even then he also didn't carry black.  And no outside male would have survived mating her!
