Gustav, if you click on the Bitches name in the data base, you will see that there is absolutely no doubt as to her colour, look at her ancestors, ( and her progeny ).

Paulie, I never questioned whether she was sable, I didn't feel with that picture there was enough information to be sure. I have seen sables and black and tans that looked like that picture, so I kept my mouth shut because I was not sure and didn't want to step out there and mislead somebody else when I didn't know.....Glad the owner posted in...nice dog!

This is in relation to the bitch stripe comments, rather than those about sables.

My male had a very black mantle and saddle, both of which developed the salt and pepper colouration after neutering. Entire males may have this colouration too, but there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that those males with very black saddles can develop a 'bitch stripe' after being castrated.

Rik:

That is a nice looking Sable pup you have pictured at a show, what are her lines and does she work?

by oso on 31 July 2009 - 15:07

I think Rik¿s is a male? Nice. Look at the front reach in the movement picture (I presume its the same dog?) Love the head on yours KitKAt! I do not know how to post a photo here (I never see the little box with mountains that people mention?) but my young showline sable with photo is here: www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/559117.html.

Read the SV breed standards, They are talking about allowing plush coats also, it is a part of the breed, I have no problem allowing long hair, black, plush coats, ask Long as they are pure GSD, We have to remember that the Gene that created the breed comes from other breeds, once and a while that will pop up and we should accept it as a part of the breed.

We should also go back to the original BREED Survey to test for suitability of the dog, looks does not mean anything if the temperament is not there. This dog was not bread for looks it was bread for work, we should stay true to the origin.

The above is 4 ways to display an image.

Most people would only use Link and Upload

How to get URL addresses of pictures on websites:

To copy the Address:

Left click and drag your mouse from the .jpg to the http so basically you click and drag from right to left until the whole address is highlighted blue then just right click on the highlighted area and select copy.
