For the german showline gsd's

are sabe colour dogs allowed to be shown. Because some breeders like Antilli gsd breed sables, and i was wondering if they could be shown.

I think they can.

Could someone PM me with pictures of sable colours that canbeaccepted in the ring, if they ar accepted?

Please visit www.nikonisgsd.co.uk and look on males page and check out Ch Nikonis Yago Sch H2 V1 Vice Sieger (GB) and if you then click on his progeny page you will see not only has he been shown both here and in Germany but many of his progeny are also sable and also top winners.  Nikki

Yes the sable can be shown.

Here is my sable pup going VP1 at a regional show in the U.S.

That dog you showed upstream is NOT a sable, It is a saddleback black and tan with a pronounced bitch stripe (salt and peppering of the saddle down the middle of the back.)  This is very common in female B&T dogs, and is not considered a fault.

Interestingly enough, my male developed a bitch stripe after being neutered, so hormones definitely DO play a role in the stripe!

I think Linda Shaw does an excellent example of explaining the different colours of GSD's:

The only colour not permitted in the show ring is white.

Nice sable, RIk!

Sunsilver,

Thank you!  I always wondered why my black and red male's extremely dark saddle started to salt & pepper.  I thought I wasn't grooming him properly.  The salt and pepper effect started a short time after his neuter.  This was really bugging me.

Thanks again...Dan

Before neutering - black as can be!  I was planning to neuter him, as he was a rescue, but since at the time, I had a fenced yard, and only the one dog, I was in no hurry to get it done. Then he developed a really bad infection in his prostate....

Six months after neutering  (He was still having prostate problems, and they'd had to shave his belly to do an ultrasound. Everything's fine, now, though it took nearly a year for him to stop dribbling in his sleep!)
