What are we sinking too? A quarter horse does not have the shape of a hyena! One of the best endurance horses out there is the Arabian and they have a very straight topline when compared to a quarter horse. If the roached back over angulated dog was better at trotting long distances then maybe I'll start my own line of Arabians that have roached backs! I bet it'll catch on and be the new Arabian. Don't know how I would keep a saddle on though. All I have to say is that it is a "better bred animal" and someone will believe it.

"They persistently used vile means to cut von Stephanitz off from his life's work and when he resisted, they threatened him with a concentration camp. He gave up."

IMO - .  quit or we will put you in a concentration camp...... same as being booted out..........

Does anyone have a translated copy of the breed standard from 1930's?

horses have straight backs so saddles will stay on them and also carry weight of the rider......... LOL

Sounds to me like he was forced out by the Nazis who wanted to take control of the S.V.

forced out, booted out, kicked out..........all the same thing -

"get out or suffer the consequences"

Anyone have a copy of the breed standard from the 1930's?

Von ward, the Arabian with roach back already exists...it's called a camel. LOL @ keeping saddle on, you can do it Australian style and put it behind the hump. Or, do Arab style and sit in front of the hump.
But if you do it Mongolian style, get a Bactrian and you don't need a saddle. LMAO! PS. The dromedary isn't called the ships of the desert for nothing. But they pace, not trot, so they don't count. The QH top line is raised in the rear because of muscle mass, not because of skeletal structure.

how about Malinois?  They seem to be more athletic, agile, and have more endurance than GSD.  And they have straight back, carry their head higher and seems to glide on their feet when they move, like the Arab horses.

sitasmom, could you explain what yr point of view on ideal structure is please, even if it is hypothetical. i am not asking you to parrot the standard, that is too open to interpretation.  i am asking you what yr ideal gsd would look like and why. or even what your ideal hypothetical quadruped built for endurance would have as its main structural features.
