What is the RSV?

by Blitzen on 17 July 2013 - 10:07

Our training field has a clubhouse, drinks and snacks on the honor system. 10 acres fenced in, a separate area to lay tracks, a separate fenced IPO field. IPO, agility, OB equipment and is open to everyone with a dog no matter the breed or pedigree. We have Czech dogs, German working lines, German and American show lines and combos of the above. No one is ever turned away. We held a trial only this year; in the past we had an annual trial, show, breed survey.

When the owner wasn't there, blinds and other equipment were broken and never repaired, some took drinks and snacks and never paid, the helpers didn't always show up, and someone tried to beak into her living quarters. The future of the club is very much up in the air right now.

There are a few breeders here doing good things yes.  Yes we may have bought strong bloodlines, but then why are they going back to Germany or Belgium to get their next brood bitch or next stud dog?  Not all, but most it seems.  There are very few that even compete with their own dogs.  I can think of more than a few that stud their dog out a lot, have double digit litters every year, yet they have competed with a dog not from their "bloodlines" every time they get a competition dog?   Why is that?

Again, not all, but most.  my bitch was born here, she will be bred here too by her breeder again.  He is competing with a dog from his own breeding, at a national level.  He breeds untitled dogs sometimes, but he's working dogs every single day of his life as well.  He knows his dogs, his knows their ancestors, he bred and trained them as well.  Subsequently he produces very nice dogs.  Go figure.  But I haven't met many like him.  Most are breeding to their paper pedigree because they have "good lines" and some big name dog that won something.  At least that's what I see.  For every breeder like mine, their are 20 others that are not similar in any way other than they breed German Shepherds.

For reasons that I can't understand, US GSD breeders are not apt to support their peers in most ways. That is contrary to the way most other breeds  operate and thrive.

ZDOG, it is a cultural thing.

Lee has posted it on her facebook and while it is about Eventing with Horses, it's basically the same for Schutzhund and German Shepherds.
That being said, there are some very good breeders. But most of those, (except for a few) you don't find regularly posting on this or other forums.

I find this some real egottistical "bullshit".
There are several breeders here in the US that breed wonderful dogs, and DO have their own consistent lines, (and NO, I will not even try to put myself into the same boat as some of those devoted to the breed breeders,).
Have you checked out some of down right lame specimens of German Shepherds that get sold out of "the mother country" to say India?
I would not take one of them dogs for free!
I have seen some rather pathetic looking German Shepherds, roached to the max, being produced in Germany, by an SV judge no less.
There are shitty breeders "everywhere".
IF you care about the breed, you will do right by it, regardless if there is an instruction booklet that goes with it.
If you care only about the money, don't matter what the booklet says.
To insinuate that only Germans care about the breed is ludicrous!

And, BTW- just because Pizza was made in Italy, don't mean us Americans don't appreciate and want a good "slicee of the pie".
