Doubles again sorry, because I'm long winded!

That takes training, which you're too lazy to do. So for police work and SAR they're generally too big (can't go over obstacles as easily), for herding, too big (can't make the tight turns), for service work too big (can't fit as easily on public transport, in elevators, or in smaller homes). That leaves being a property guardian (where people tend to prefer other breeds that have a higher guarding instinct), and pets. Weak argument Shtal, very weak.

Of course you're just going to continue to twist things and make stuff up, because you can't accept that other people aren't particularly impressed by size if there's nothing else special to go with it.

Are you saying they are very big because they are GSD's???? or Eastern European lines Shepherds

My standard size working line 80 pound GSD, had basic home trainning and he protected my brother from Saint Bernard attack!

Look, your argument that standard size GSD's are the best way to go as a true German Shepherd dog; "Perfect Size" Germany made a very good dog. (I agree)

But since Russia made their (own version) of German Shepherd officially in their country, they are much slower but it's still a good dog.

People who breed oversize dogs in USA may be similar what russia has of their (own version) of oversize, just like in the video clips.

All I'm saying is Oversize dog may not be as fast as standard size GSD, but oversize dog is still possible to use, just like Russia is using them right now. (I do beileive and I know standard working line is the best)

How hard to understand my argument:)

I'm not evil, I like big dogs for my purposes.

Jackal73, english isn't my language - I'm from Moscow.
Its not easy to explain... This dogs are not so good in work, as working line GSD. We have big country and not so many working GSD. Army and police has not many money for pups, they often take dogs from owners. This dogs can be show GSD, or cowardly, or too calm. But kinologist must work with this dog too. Pity. We have not others, understand? Mostly in army are show-GSD. Who have money - they buy working-line GSD or maly. We have not dutsch-sheepdogs.
EEGSD work as patrol or explosive-search.

a few points and questions.   big dogs for your purpose. what is your purpose?

I will say this. IMHO the czech border patrol got it right. They have produced dogs since 1955 that have to work in some of the most enduring enviroments possible using both protection skills and nose work.. If the giant line shepherds you speak of were more capable of completeing the tasks assigned, why would they not use them?

As for this comment:

I dont know you so i want call you lazy however:
This means absolutely nothing to the dogs training. If you read through other threads there are examples of mungel's, golden retrievers, and other dogs fighting to protect there owners til death from cougars and other threats. They arent even considered bully breeds or working dogs to the facit of the GSD. So the fact he protected your brother is all great but it doesnt prove anything to his amount of training. My lab pup will protect from a threat it doesnt mean much.

The fact still remains they are not as durable, efficient, or capable as the GSD of standard size!

I have 5 total german shepherds.

I have 2 working lines standard size GSD's,
I have 2 show line standard size GSD's

And I have this giant size male GSD.
The purpose for Giant is the appearance for the stranger to walk and don't come near my property, he is my guard dog.

The working line I use for the speed as a backup plan for my property.

The showline is going to be use for the show to people the beauty and appearance.

And next year I will breed my dogs to make some extra money.

If you want scare the peoples only with look of dog, you need a big dog, not mali )))
But if you want endurable dog with higj drive and full grip - you not need EEGSD )))

i dont get why you need big dog for appearance. 80-90 lbs is more than enough in my book. but thats an opinion thing where i guess there isnt a right or wrong.

by mariaartashes on 09 January 2010 - 21:01

Look. Peoples scare the big dog, they think - big dog, great grip. And - no money for new dog. Who can - they buy working mali or GSD. But mostly Army and Police work with dogs, wich don't need theyr owners.
Of course, normal size GSD is better, better in all - and health too.
I have working dog. High drive, all understand with half word, want to do all correct. Fantastic dog...
