Like many of you on this forum I've been researching dog food for weeks now.  I have a 7 month old puppy and I wanted to try a grain free food not by Diamond.  Well I think Orijen is too much protein for her growing bones.  TOTW is not human grade food and is with Diamond.  So I settled on trying Wellness Core.  It is a 6 star rating with food anaylsis.  I live in an area were I don't have much to choose from.  From my research and understanding (I may be wrong)  even if Wellness is packaged by DIamond (which I'm not convinced it is) they have strict guidlines from them to follow.  For example they have to clean between food runs, they use human grade food, it's grain free, and they have to follow their recipe and they supply the ingredients.  They also have an inspector for human food that does their inspections.  Like I said I'm new here and just started all this research for my new puppy, but this is what I've found.

MissyFly96,
I agree that Wellness Core is a well made food.
You should look in to using this with a puppy.
The food is not recommended for use with dogs under 1 year of age.
Below is from their web site in the feeding directions:

Who Should Eat CORE:

The nutrient levels of this food are appropriate for adult dogs over 1 year. We do not recommend feeding this formula to puppies as they have special nutritional requirements during their growth stage. Please try our Wellness Puppy Food to meet these unique needs.

That is true however,  I could not find a grain free food specific for puppies.  I checked the proteein and all the other levels, she is very active and I think it will be okay.  I am only trying a grain free food for now to see if it helps the biting and itching problem she has.  She has absolutely no fleas and I add salmon oil to her food, but she is still biting and itching so I'm trying to elimate grains to see if she has a problem with them.  If this is not the problem I'll go back to wellness super5mix for large breed puppy.  Which is a 5 star food and follows the same regualtions.

It could be the protein your pup is allergic to.They say that its usually one of the protein sources that they react to.You might want to find another grain free food with different protein sources such as duck or something. If you dont get a handle on this now ,you will be in for some bad times.I know cause I had this  problem with one of my boys.Take care and good luck.

Diamond wrote back to me and said " in addition to Diamond, Diamond naturals and TOTW, Diamond manufactures Premium Edge, Professional and Chicken Soup for the PLS. I am not certain about plant tours, but someone will answer that portion of you inquiry. I have forwarded your request.

They did not mention Solid Gold. They did not mention Wellness. Wellness is made by  Mother Hubbard. I was feeding Wellness Super 5 with mixed results - my other 2 dogs are doing fine, but my Shep had diarhrea often.
