I think thats a great Idea Mackenzie - I would do that in an instant, and perhaps Chris could put it in to her programme of searching for information from breeders.

Mackenzie what you have suggested has been suggested before and been squashed as soon as the suggestion has been put forward. The availability of any health related information to breeders and buyers would be very beneficial to all and for the the breeds future.

Mark3. There has been no reply whatsoever to my question relating to the validity of professional pedigree checkers and no reply to your post either. I am dismayed that there does not appear to be any official body that can or will answer this ?.

Petowner your comment is noted and in the past has been proved correct.  However, with the publicity regarding health and welfare issues in recent times level headed people may consider it is now worth trying.  If nobody tries then the UK will have to take it's usual place - second best.

Thank you Mackenzie.   I take it  there is no such position as a professional pedigree checker other than self appointed ones ?.      Simon.

As the Research Assistant name in post  dated 5/2 is already in the public domain I posted above, here it is again www.aht.org.uk/genetics_research.html

I wasnt sure if the Researcher in Finland email address was so I did pm several people it hoping one of the Breed Clubs may help to co ordinate, but I have since found it is already available on line so here it is for any one see: www.koirangeenit.fi/index.php   maybe those with Health Information already on their websites such as Videx can add it to their link section.

I was very interested to read this post & the replies as my GSD bitch now aged 4yrs, has been on Phenobarbital since 9mths due to suffering Petit Mals Seizures.   We have never been able to establish the exact cause, even after an MRI scan.  But I have long suspected a herediatary link to German lines.

Her Great Grandsire is one of the most famous German Dogs of recent years, and though I am well aware that the problems may not stem just from him, I have come across countless descendants of him & his predecesors that have severe allergies or have been linked to dogs dying young.

My bitch also has a food allergy so severe that she can only eat a specific (and very expensive) prescription food & gets contact dermatitis from most things, she also has HD in one leg & on her other leg the head of the femur is much smaller than it should be.  She's basically a physcal wreck.

I am just about to research the dogs listed & if I see a connection in the pedigree I will post back.

Ok Folks,  Sorry about the last message if it went through as I was so shocked when I looked up the pedigree of Gayville's Natz that I pressed the submit button before I wrote anything!!

I see that the Great Grandsire of Natz is Yasko vom Farbenspiel & he is also the Great Grandsire of my bitch, sitting in their pedigrees in exactly the same position.

In a previous post about epilepsy I was reminded that the bitch line could be equally responsible & I accept this comment.  However I will leave it you all to decide whether this is just too much of a coincidence, personally I think it is.

I have the full veterinary records for my bitch & would be happy to assist or give information to anyone who requires it FOR THE GOOD OF THE BREED, not malicious purposes.

I feel so sorry for the dogs, owners & breeders concerned.  I hope we can alll act quickly to stop further cases of this distressing illness.

Out of interest, Natz, Nero & Yasko are all linked by Odin Von Tannenmeise.
