"Avoidance of this challenge" will escalate the demise of the correct GSD in Great Britain
for everybody involved with it!

Lynx, here is the international type of GSD, in this case, the dog that won BOB at Crufts, and was then slandered by the T.V. commentator:

And here is the Alsatian type for comparison:

It's easy to see which one has the most correct structure!

Thanks Sunsilver, I just had no idea exactly what the Alsatians looked like. They are all low station making their bodies look too long when actually, their legs are too short for their bodies.  At least that is what it looks like to me, I am no expert.

WOW WOW WOW!!!!

Clokelys is just magnificent.  So powerful and masculine and looks very well put together.  I am so happy that a dog like that won BOB at Crufts.  If this is the future of showlines, the future is bright.

Unfortunately Pharaoh
The Alsatian type is what the UK kennel club thinks of as correct and it is MY personal belief that is why the International type is getting discriminated against by the UK Kennel Club

by noddi on 31 March 2010 - 07:03

Myfanwy,i also think its also because of our attitude.the alsatianists and some who have a more correct type want a quiet life and just fall in with the KC  as they dont want any hassle.lets face it i was in the beggining with them but as time went on i began to look at the situation with my eyes wide open.i can see their point re the double handling and for one would miss it in the slightest,BUT NOT THEIR ATTITUDE TO MANDATORY HEALTH TESTINGS FOR EVERY BREED NOT JUST GSDS.then when they upped their battle with us and started using underhanded tatics i changed my mind .I FOR ONE DO NOT TAKE TO BULLYING FROM NO ONE.i used to work for NAT.WEST .BANK and i even back chatted more senior members of staff if i thought i was being picked on or told off incorrectly.the KC need to listen to breeders and take on board wot is being said.i dont think we are the only breed who have asked for mandatory testing.we are the KC ,s TEST CASE.if we crumble then they know that no other breed will try to go down the same path.JMO.Carole S.ps.reread my post it should read...I FOR 1 WOULD NOT MISS THE DOUBLE HANDLING.

Mis-information is spreading out in the public domain:

http://www.animalfriends.org.uk/dog_news/kennel_club_disturbed_by_progress_on_german_shepherd_issue_19697768.html

We need to effectively "counter" such rubbish.

GSD enthusiasts appear to be seriously "under-estimating" the problems we are faced with.

Effectively ‘counter’ ????........with what???  The public have eyes; they don’t like what they see. Now before you start, I am not the reason for that.  If the insurance companies jump on this perceived health issue in the GSD and a perceived reluctance to deal with it, you can guarantee it will push premiums sky high, which will be another hurdle for potential puppy buyers to consider.  No puppy buyers equals no breed.  You are right about one thing though, GSD enthusiasts certainly do appear to be seriously "under-estimating" the problems faced.

Hi David,
I've sent the following response -

The claims made in your article are quite wrong and need to be publicly corrected. Despite numerous requests by GSD clubs over many years, the Kennel Club refuses to make health checks on breeding stock mandatory as a prerequisite to registering GSD litters. It will register litters from GSD parents with severe hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia,as well as other conditions for which testing is available prior to breeding.

The public needs to be made aware that KC Registration does NOT indicate a puppy has been bred from healthy parents, and you, as insurers, might also like to know that. GSD clubs are the bodies pushing health issues NOT the KC. Perhaps you should investigate what schemes it has in place to make sure GSDs are suitable material for breeding. I'll save you the trouble - NONE! X-raying for Hip Dysplasia is mandatory BUT it doesn't matter how shockingly bad a GSD's hips are - it can be crippled - THE KC WILL STILL REGISTER ITS PUPPIES. As long as the parents have been x-rayed it doesn't matter to the KC how good or how BAD the animals' hips are and it's this KC attitude towards health issues that has totally disgusted genuine GSD enthusiasts world wide.

For the KC to claim that its current actions are the result of something said by Herr Meyer is absolute hypocrisy. For a GSD litter to be registered in Germany it is compulsory for both parents to carry the following official designations: Dna parentage, 'a' stamp (for good hips), ED (for good elbows), BH - SchH 1,2 or 3 (working qualifications), AD ( 20k endurance test), Kkl 1 or 2 (Breed Survey classification for worth as a breeding animal). And before all that is achieved, a dog must've been either tattooed or microchipped as a baby (for positive identification when going through the various schemes at a later age).

Why would the KC give a toss what Herr Meyer had to say when it continues to reject the GSD clubs' requests for basic health testing prior to GSDs being bred from? And continues to register puppies bred from health affected parents!

David, that insurance company should be made aware that the testing scheme for Haemophilla in gsds males was started by the gsd community NOT THE KC,as this is how it reads.Carole S.

noddi   I know - I know - I know

I am receiving reports that many GSD breeders and  enthusiasts are becoming seriously despondent with the GSD Breed Council & our GSD Breed Clubs,  and their lack of activity in defending our breed. Many saying they and the public have very little option to believing the Kennel Club propaganda.
