Our dear "Winston Tramellas Wasco" has been recently diagnosed with the dreaded C.D.R.M . In nearly 50years this is the first time one of our G.S.D.S has been affected. So its all some what new to us.But we realize there is no happy ending.
He goes to a canine Hydrotherapy pool once a week .He has had some laser treatment.and also some Accupuncture treatment,we have him on a Fresh meat Diet . Medication 30mil Metacam daily .
If anyone can suggest anything else we can do to help him at this time we would be grateful for a call on 01604 770758 . Many thanks Ray&Beryl Sullivan .

Ray, I am so sorry to hear that. Years ago I had a GSDX that had it. It's a sad disease, because the dog feels OK, and has no pain. You are doing all the right things, and I dont think you've missed anything out. No, there is no happy ending, but all the things you are doing can gain you some time.

Because it is not a painful condition, they are good candidates for 'wheels' if you wanted to go down that route. If you do, I can highly recommend someone,  a friend of mine recently used some for her shepherd and they were fabulous, there are lots of different types and she tried another before the last one, and the last one was superb in terms of ease of use and comfort for the dog. I know many people do not wish to go this route, and I don't know whether I would, I think it would depend on the dog. I didn't have the option years ago, there was no such thing around, but still I don't know whether I would have done or not.

Let me know if you want the info. I don't know if I am allowed to post it on the board, and I don't know how to send a pm. If you do, send me one and I will hopefully be able to reply.

Enjoy the time you have with him, and remember, he doesn't know there is a problem, and he feels no pain with it.

Sounds fine what you are doing, the one dog I had with this condition I also used a magnetic collar as it increases the blood flow, later on I also borrowed this collar to someone with a Belgian with the same condition.
As long as he is happy enjoy your time with him.
Best Wishes Pam

Hi Ray... sorry to hear your news.  McTimoney may help.  When they lose some of the feeling in their spine, they can end up knocking discs out... McTimoney re-aligns the spine, it's pretty much the same as a Chiropractor.

I had reasonable results with Buddy after he did the splits (back legs) on the kitchen floor, which left him with a spinal problem.  Google for a practitioner in your area.

Good luck.

How distressing for you;  take a look at the page dedicated to CDRM on The Leaque's site.  There is some very useful advice & support, including many web site links dedicated to care & management of this affliction.  Wishing you well in your care & management of your obviously much loved Wasco.

Hello there, sorry to hear your sad news, hugs to your dog.  My only experience with CDRM was quite a few years ago, no real help available then, so it was just a question of reading my dog realy and knowing what was best for him. He was 10 at the onset, and it was heartbreaking to see him realy struggle at times, but the light never went out in his eyes, he just turned into a part time Bambi on ice!  I think there have been some strides made and some proper research now into CDRM, and Im sure you will find the best available for your boy. Good luck, wishing Winston all the very best.
