Can anyone tell me how important it is that the pet passport has the expiry date for rabies vaccination written in?

My new girl's passport appears to be all in order but it looks like the vet has omitted to write in the expiry date for the Rabisin vaccination (I have discovered online that this vaccine lasts for 2 years).

Will they refuse her entry to UK for this ommission or am I just worrying over nothing?

Thanks in advance.

I believe if your dog is pup then the shot is good for one year. In any case if your dog's shot is older then one year I would have it redone before shipping. Also how long the shot is recognized by local authorities depends on these authorities. Ask them.

Thanks Prager.
I have the documentation to prove her titre levels are sufficient and this is documented on her passport so I'm presuming she won't need further rabies vaccination until after she has arrived in UK?
I'm never keen on filling a dog full of chemicals unless absolutely necessary.

Bridget,

I think like you, I hate any extra "chemicals" going in to the dogs than has to be - so perhaps a best idea would be to contact your vet that did the rabies jab, he will have the date documented that he did it, and get him to put his signature to the date in 2 years time that she needs it. That way theer can be no discrepancy or wondering at any port, its just not worth getting to a port with the dog and finding that some-one checks to the endth degree and because this bit of the job isnt done, they query it.

Hi Bridget I would check with DEFRA to cover yourself, does it have the vets official stamp on the vacination page? and is the Rabies Serological Test page dated, signed and stamped. Re vaccine all are different the expiry date on my dogs last vac is 3 years after given date but I have heard some ports wont accept that.

Just noticed this thread. To put you all in the picture, Rabies Vacs done here in the UK can last between 2 to 3 years depending upon the vaccination used. However, regardless of what Vaccine is used, those done on the continent are only valid for ONE YEAR.
My vet also informed me that the Rabies Vaccination I had done on my female which was valid for 3years would only be valid for one year (therefore need to be done again in a years time) if she spent longer than 3 months out of the UK.
Hope this helps
Regards
Sue

Thank you for this information.

The breeder has now returned to the German vet who has completed the 'Valid Until' section for the Rabisin on the passport.  Serological page all completed correctly.  So I hope this will be ok now.

Does anyone have any idea how long it takes the VDH to organise the export pedigree?  I'm hoping this will be done prior to her arriving in UK so we can get some show entries in ready for her to have fun at!
