You are right Gustav.

anytime I stated that, I was called stupid, and here recently a stoner.

One just needs to stand back and look to see whats happening to these dogs.  Alot of owners and breeders are in denial, but who cares as long as they continue to win those big trophies and ribbons.  they are still the ones breeding to the standard and doing things right.

Re our discussion on dogs with great toplines. Have a look at Ibrahim's request for a critique on Orwell, on the general topics side. That dog has a topline to die for.

I think the WGSL arrived there some time ago!

You may be able to see him there. Otherwise perhaps Ibrahim could try posting another photo. (I wouldn't know how!)

Rik - Don't know, still waiting to find out...

Morning Abby.Ibrahim kindly put 2 photos of Orwell on here for me to see and i have kindly thanked him by PM.Yes i agree he has a correct topline tho.for me i would prefer a bit more substance altho.Ibrahim has confirmed wot i thought, that he is very young and will aquire the substance as he matures.i also like the B/L on Neck V.Wolfenden and his sire Ajax.i,guess ,i prefer a slightly more sloping T/L towards the rear end than yu,but i think we,d agree on most gsds.i still say that many of the gsds bred here in the uk have good toplines.so i suppose we,ll have to agree to disagree.would be nice to meet yu at crufts if you are going?i,ll be there with or without Chiki.wont be showing her if she,s out of coat coz.the judge is a stickler for a well balanced, calm ,sound moving animal which has been well groomed.Carole S.

I read what noddi commented on the topline of orwell and substance and felt it looks odd talking about a topline others can not see so I reposted one pic. All can freely comment if they wish as this is a learning topic to me and maybe also to some others. If original poster thinks posting the pic is off intended topic I can always remove it with a due apology.

Hi Carole

We do agree on a correct topline, but strangely, not that many S/L here in the UK or Germany have them LOL. Of course, a dog is not just a topline, the rest of the skeleton and how it relates to the back is the key. Overangulation will create more 'slope' or incline toward the rear end.  This is why you will rarely see a working line dog, no matter how extremely stacked, appear to have a curved topline. It starts with a straight back, and does not have excessive rear angulation. And there we hit another topic that's always being done to death - overangulation.

Anyway, I am sure that we can agree to disagree amicably, and on the whole, as you say, we seem to like a similar structure.

For me this really does illustrate the topline perfectly.

No, I doubt I will be going to Crufts this year. I really do hate to be away from my animals for too long :) and I can't do it in a day.
