just curious if you are a breeder aind someone gives you a non refundable down payment to hold a puppy and then last min decides they either wan't another puppy or want to wait

would you be willing to hold on to their money or give them another dog puppy of their choice?

if they decide not to take the puppy they picked my policy Is to return the deposit... doesnt matter
however if i have 2 remaining and  you decide to take one not the other then thats fine however if i have only one puppy remaining and you like the pup that is already sold.. sorry but i wont sell you something that doesnt belong to me anymore.
I will return the deposit

so you have refundable deposits that is a first

non-refundable deposits are not returned if the buyer backs out for any reason, but deposit is moved to another litter, it is not "lost".

I return deposit if I change my mind about selling to the buyer, or if a puppy isn't produced that suits that buyer (ie the female loses her litter/is not pregnant, the buyer wants a male and there are no  males, and they don't want to wait for another litter, or there is no litter planned for the near future)

just curious what are somethings that may make u want to not sell to someone after they already had a deposit? someone that ask 2 many questions, expects to much from the dog etc..

finding out something about them that makes you wonder if the pup is going to the good home you thought it would when you accepted the deposit.... many reasons.  If I decide I'm not comfortable with a particular pup going to a particular home, I'll back out of the sale and return the deposit.

My deposits are refundable.

I feel weird about taking money from someone when I haven't given them anything.

I don't understand the concept of non-refundable....I don't like to hold their money hostage, just Incase they want to back out due to their circumstances changing, death-in-family, job loss, not ready to commit to roughly 14 years of responsibility..

I also don't ship the puppy, so that I can meet the people in person and decide if they are capable of caring for a GSD pup.

A non-refundable deposit is just that Not refundable.

My deposits are non refundable, that being said, I do not except deposits until puppies are already born and at least 2- 3 weeks old.   I won't except deposits on future litters.  I won't except deposits on puppies while mom is pregnant.   ONLY  after they  have been born, and I know how many will survive and what gender is officially available.

I do not want someone's money, just to have to give it back.

The deposit is to hold that puppy that we have collectively decided would fit your needs.  I don't want to turn a potential customer away , just to find out that someone that had a deposit bailed out and now I have a puppy that could have been placed to a more appropriate home, and I have to come up with money to give Back.
By waiting longer to except deposits on puppies that are already 2-3 weeks old.  They are more tangable and pictures can be sent, before a deposit is given.  If People are uncertain, I tell them  to wait, and take the chance that the puppy may still be available at 8 weeks, but that is their risk.

In fact, If someone is very uncertain and not sure, but wants to send a deposit ,just to buy themselves some time to think about it,  I will tell them not to send a deposit.  I won't except it.

So, long before they send the deposit, I have plenty of time to get to figure out what they are looking for in a puppy, and if they are really ready to commit to this lifetime journey with a new puppy.  What type of puppy they are looking for, and if puppies I have available would be likely to fit their needs.

Although, I will admit I had one person send me a Deposit after email correspondence only, with out even calling me first.  And wrote a really long letter asking me to accept this deposit, and they understood that they may not get a puppy from the current litter I had at the time, but was willing to wait until the next litter, even if it meant waiting a year.  Knowing the Deposit was non-refundable didn't want  to take the risk that they would miss out.  p.s. still hoping a puppy from the current litter would work.  AS, it turned out I still held the check for 2 weeks and had several phone calls with them and ended up having  a pup that was going to be great for them from the litter I had,  and shipped to him California to them.

Long story short, I don't take money, just to give it back.  Not smart Business.

Of Course I am talking deposits, and not even diving into contracts and such.

100% of any amount I get (for puppy NOT SHIPPING) is refundable until 72 hours after they receive their puppy and it is contingent on the return of puppy and puppy kit.  I have had people put deposits on puppies and returned it when they realized it was not the right time to get a puppy.
It has worked for me, but everyone should find the groove that works for them.  My policy is, I treat people how I want to be treated when I buy a dog.
