http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/para.utkoma?fadir=508262&modir=587755  I am getting a male from this litter and was wondering if anyone can tell me about these lines?  I'm new to german shepherds.

I can tell you that we own a 2 year old female out of Boy von Zorra and Irmhild von der Staatsmacht and that we could not possibly be more happy with her!  She is everything we want in a dog and we even hope to get another puppy from this breeding the next time the breeders repeat this breeding.  I know Boy very well and am always impressed with him and his offspring.  Our female is strong, confident, out-going, social, drivey, biddable and gorgeous!  I have nothing bad to say about her, her father or her breeders.

Here is a link to her pedigree...

well, congratulations.  for not knowing what sort of dogs they are, you picked a winner.  this is a very nice pedigree, but also be advised that this puppy has the potential to be "a lot of dog!"  i sincerely hope you have plans for training and some sort of sport or work as an outlet for this pup because a couch potato he ain't.  wishing you the best.  :)

Leyla is a very nice looking girl!  Thanks for the feedback.  That is what I was hoping to hear.

Actually I found a breeder I liked and asked her a lot of questions.  I am very interested in obedience and possibly even schutzhund.  I took an 18 month old female named Star (http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/para.utkoma?fadir=589935&modir=524174)  from this breeder I am very happy with.  She still needs a lot of work, but loves trying everything I ask her to do!  Well she is struggling with allowing everyone near me, she takes serious exception to some people. wink  But I found the Leerburg site and have ordered/watched several of their DVDs and have read a large portion of the web site.  With this information she and I are marking fine progress with her hostess manners.

I was involved with horses and dogs when younger, but had never even heard of schutzhund before 3 months ago.  At first I looked into it just to see what it was about, but then after reading about the control, itellegence and athleticism expected from the dogs I became seriously interested.  I have always loved a protective dog, however I feel a dog should never be needlessly agressive, unless asked and MUST accept my visitors into my home.  As I recently heard Ed Fawley say though, Whatever they catch when I'm away they can eat! LOL

Anyone else that knows anything about the lines in this cross that could help fill me in, please chime in!  All comments and information welcome so I can learn all I can.

Well congratulations!  This line of dogs in your pedigree were mostly among the top 7 WUSV participants in Seville Spain last year!  Pedigree wise, just as PJP indicated, a lot of dog!

It would seem to me that a novice purchasing a dog would know a bit more about what he/she was looking for and for what purpose, but it looks like you are either:

  • Looking for reassurance of what people thought of your new purchase and that you purchased a hell of a dog/puppy knowing that
  • You have put the cart before the horse and bought a dog without knowing much of its lineage and what your purpose is going to be.  Now come the question as to what am I going to do with this box of dynamite?

I love this line of dogs especially when having a bit of DDR in the background.  See tiekerhook's website.  Good Luck!

Tenmom-

I am exactly that, a "newbie."  Ugh, to be there again! LOL  I did try to do my research and spoke with the breeder at length before deciding, however being the newbie I am I guess I did sort of want to be sure I am on the right track with this breeding.  I wasn't sure where else to ask my question and since the breeder turned me on to this site I figured I'd try it out so to say.

I am looking for a high drive dog :-)  I love to be outside and active and need/want a dog that can keep up!!  After talking with the breeder for almost 3 months this was what she advised me to do.  Originally I was looking at another planned litter of hers.  She told me straight she didn't think that was the best match for me after getting to know me.  All of her dogs are absolutely wonderful, but well suited for different purposes.   I am looking to get into some serious competition if I and the dog has what it takes to pull it off.  I just wont know without giving it one hell of a try and need a dog that can keep up with me!  Please don't write me off for my ignorance...I promise to try and learn as fast as I possibly can! wink
