Pack, PM'd you. Don't want to put city names on the forum.

Quote: I have to ask as well- I really like most of the dogs that are line bred - the ones I have mentioned --I realize these dogs where great - but personally when I look at the video's I can't say they are perfect....and I realize why they were bred so much .....is it a marketing strategy on behalf of the owners?   - but for argument sake - if they weren't marketed do you think you would see them so much in the pedigrees.......Even if they were great............... ?  but I guess that is another subject............

Ok, so is the reason you can't say they are perfect is what is throwing you off ?? I wonder how many high scoring dogs that produce well according to record is because the dog would produce dogs that are in the middle, and thus, high scoring dogs ?

I hated Fero. He produced some really nice dogs that made a rep for themselves. I like a lot of those dogs a lot. I think here in the states, we are way to stinking far apart, and man, look at all the petty jealousy crap that goes on. Here is another thing that I have thought about, sometimes seriously, and sometimes had some good conversations with people about. How many breeders over there are women, compared to here, where they appear to be in the majority ?

Quote: Looking at the dogs mentioned some have been bred very heavily already....

I think that people overseas can go and see dogs work without having to span half the globe is a huge advantage that they have.

Jeff
I can only say for Belgium, 70% of Breeders are the Males ,of course in a tremendous amount of cases it is a family affair, the wife takes a lot of interest in the Sport side as well.
We are lucky in as much we can go and see Dogs we are interested in, for the most part Belgium is easy to get to all over the country it is no size at all.
Germany is very big, My possible next Pup in Germany is about 600 miles round trip away from me, I will drive and see it in a months time when it is about 5 weeks old, if i like the litter and what i get to pick then i will go back and hopefully bring it home at 7 weeks old,
That distance to me is a fair amount but i guess to you Guys in the USA it is but a little ride out, So in that respect we are very lucky compared to you Guys over the other side of the big pond, and i can appreciate how difficult it is for someone buying when you cannot see the puppy first, But a good relationship prior with the breeder can help you to know if all is up front etc

I am going to a trial in June and it is 1197 miles away from me. It has to be like a vacation to go to trials far away. Crazy. To go 600 miles to get a nice pup, is nothing. I hope the pup is great.

No, 600 round trip is nothing! I used to drive 700 ONE WAY to train with someone I liked better than anyone around here. My son changed all those spur of the moment trips though, lol.

We in the US definitely are not at an advatage, distance-wise, when it comes to puppy shopping.

No' 600 miles will not be to far to go to assess the Pup, young Gina 13 months old today was 1.400 miles there and back. right on the Austrian Border,

600 miles is not far compared to 10 to 12 years of ownership.  I could easily double that 600 mile trip

I am not sure what traveling has to do with this thread.......we all travel - so whatis the point on the comments....?

Quote from me: I have to ask as well- I really like most of the dogs that are line bred - the ones I have mentioned --I realize these dogs where great - but personally when I look at the video's I can't say they are perfect....and I realize why they were bred so much .....is it a marketing strategy on behalf of the owners?   - but for argument sake - if they weren't marketed do you think you would see them so much in the pedigrees.......Even if they were great............... ?  but I guess that is another subject............

In the thread that I mentioned  the videos of Fero or even Timmy - were not impressive.........  I understand that the video's are not what people go on - but why not better video's...?  I realize people bred with these dogs with the thought that they are producing themselves - and I think they did............I have no problems with my boy - he is line bred off of Fero.........you don't even like him - so what - but that isn't what the subject matter is.................  it is who is on the ground - and who will be talked about in 20 years - somebody had stated that it would be lines off of Fero and his sons........ok - that is why I said what I said - so I never got a response on who the dogs are that Zeigenfarm was talking about..........

Quote:  i think we will continue to see fero blood in our pedigrees, but fero himself will become obscure.  we will see branches coming off from him thru his various sons/daughters.  i think people will continue to linebreed and it will be common to see linebreeding on one or more sons or possibly 3 different sons on one pedigree.  that is already being done in some cases and i think we will continue to see it------because it works.

That is what I am intersted in knowing - please go on about what lines of of Fero you are talking about - and please limt your conversation to the topic - we are not talking about your travels and how far you have to go to get a dog or how far you have to go to train - etc, etc etc.............we all understand that - been there done that...............we are talking about  dogs we will be seeing in 20 years and possible a dog that might be comparible to say - the Fero lines...............
