As long as it is raw he will probably be ok

I do not give drumsticks for that reason..
Gsd are  bad about WOLFIN ' down large pieces of anything they eat

Stick with the wings and neckbones and backs

Calf liver, pork knuckle bones or neck bones , and round steak bones...until he is an adult..even they swallow leg bones too big.

..it worries me so I never use the drumstick...

I had one eat 2 frozen drumsticks, swallowed them whole, slid right down. For those who will jump to criticize, I didn't mean to give them to him. He snatched them as I was trying to walk past with them.  I wasn't too happy about it but nothing bad happened. I would keep trying to feed things too big to swallow whole if it's that kind of pup. Try leg quarters because they don't have that torpedo shape that seems to slide down their blessed little throats so easily.

My pup has swallowed a drum stick whole several times before, and even swallowed a whole turkey wing. Hunter passed it without any issues whatsoever, there wasn't even bone in his stool afterwards.

Oh lord. He didn't know raw diets included bones? Another reason not to trust vets on nutrition.

He'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about it. Healthy stomach acids are pretty powerful;-)

It has been my understanding that "raw" is ok as it is exactly what nature would provide.  So I don't think you have to worry.

It is the cooked bones that make me cringe at the thought of a dog getting to them...  some can splinter and become needle like and that makes me nervous when I hear that people save the beef rib and chicken bones for their dogs...

Take Care, Happy New year

Never had a problem with raw drumsticks with my Field Lab pup....he chews them well and takes them down.  Frozen, fresh and anything in between, works for him.  Definitely not a guy who is fussy about his food.

However, my GSD girl pup simply does not like or eat raw.  She nibbles at it a bit and then walks away.  The only raw stuff she takes in, are (organic) eggs with shell.

You can feed chicken leg quarters that has the drumstick and thigh together. They have to chew this.
