How do you read an ear tattoo?
Are you supposed to be able to read it with the naked eye or do you have to shine a light from the other side?
I'm asking because I can't read the tattoo in Cisco's ear.
I can see the green dots (but can't tell what they are) in the hairless portion of his ear but, can't read anything in the furry part.
If I can't read it with the naked eye does that mean he will have to be tattooed (same designation) again in order to compete?

You'll probably need to shave his ear if it's too furry. I was told this by another competitor as Nero has very
fuzzy ears.

I think most organizations recognize microchips as positive ID now? If you are going to rely on a microchip you may want to invest in a reader in case where you take your dog does not have a compatible reader. I know, pricey.
Also, you can try shining a strong flashlight through from the outside of the ear, sometimes that will make the tattoo show up better.

This is the exact reason that most people and organizations are going to the "Micro-chip"...Even the SV has done so now...
Both the Tattoo and the Micro-chip have down sides to them...But you have to go with what's accepted and works...I think there can be something better out there...just not yet...

Most judges look at the last three digits. If you can read the last three you should be good. If you are concerned, do as suggested and shave the ear. If a letter or digit is not 100% visible, one or two dots can be gone over to refresh the letter.
