Brynjulf,

It would be a dark day for WL's if the SV allowed black, grey and sable dogs to compete. I for one hope it never happens.

Felloffher:

I couldn't tell because the genes will determine the color of the dog.  However, in my particular case, color should not be a major  advantage/detriment as long as they are not the white, smoked or panda.  I would prefer to breed with the whole dog in mind.

And I agree with Darylehret.  The schism beteween the lines truly picked up steam when the SV decided to squeeze out breeders of non-cookie-cutter dogs.  It is really on their shoulders to fix the situation.  As to the flying trot, it is like anything else.  Too much of a good thing can be bad too.

If it is,
Beautiful dog. Don't see titles on him or anything on the database. Maybe need the pedigree updated by someone that knows about this dog.

The little Darylehnet Video wouldn't play for me so, I can't comment on that one.

NYPiper, Charlie 319, Great Thread, a lot of food for thought here.
Great discussion and points from both sides.

I was doing some research on Metin vom Stadfeld, and I ran into this pedigree...  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=676852

What I've been saying all along, If you breed quality dogs from SL and WL's, you should have a good result.

There's this other good looking boy:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=374313
And this one:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=636548

Hi Weezy:  Yes that is Lupo,  he was Sch3, Ipo3, Fh1, Fh2, V, KK1..

by Gustav on 21 May 2012 - 20:05

Lupo was a very nice dog, and more importantly was in the pedigree of some very very nice working and structured dogs.

Charlie,

The video you posted does show improvement, but let's face it the bar has been set pretty low. For those doing these crosses, I would hope for the betterment of the breed that success isn't measured soley in the showring. IMO, for this to be considered an improvent, dogs from these breedings would need to traverse into other fields of work and perform at a high level on a consistant basis. Other wise, what have you really achieved?

Time will tell, but I stand by my belief that the end result will be the same if color and confirmation remain the top priority.
