We finally got the results of Milo's necropsy, today.  There were no signs of poison ingestion or anything external.  Based on what they found in some of the organs, they highly suspect that it was ventricular arrithmyia (sudden heart attack).  The interesting thing is that there are no markers for this, so they can only assume this was the cause of death, because nothing else stood out.  I am happy that Milo didn't ingest poison or had something happen that could have been prevented.

The big question now is what will the breeder do.  We bought 2 dogs.... one died and one has been sick from Day 1.

Thanks

Mike

I guess there is some comfort in that Milo did not suffer. At least you know that it isn't anything you did and there really was nothing you could've done to prevent it. Of course, that doesn't help the heartache you are feeling from the loss of your beloved Milo. I'd say the breeder definitely owes you a "replacement" puppy, but based on the fact that you ended up with two sick puppies I don't know that I'd want another pup from this breeder. What is wrong with your other puppy?

When we brought the pups home, we noticed that Rocco's eyes were running a bit and he was biting his fur.  i just assumed that it was the Eukanuba the breeder fed the puppies.  Well when we took the boys for their first vet visit, it turned out that Rocco had yeast and a bacterial infection and both of them had a parasite.  Our vet practices western and chinese medicine so we tried some special shampoos and that didnt work.  Finally she had to put him on an antibiotic and that cleared up the red spots and some of the itching.  While this was happening we started changing proteins.  Anyway about 2 months ago he started losing fur on his underside and really buting at his paws.  The red spots were back and back to the vet.  We tried some chinese herbs and supplements to see if we could jump start his immune system.  Still no luck so today she put him on a very light steroid/antihisimine.  We also changed him over to a raw diet.  Since Milo passed, Rocco appetite has been poor at best.  I have almost been force feeding him this week.

Unfortunately I heard from the breeder and out of the kindness of her heart she is willing to give us a $1000 credit towards another puppy.  So we buy 2 dogs..1 dies and 1 has been sick from day 1.  We are so upset with her response that I asked her for a full refund so I can buy a healthy dog from another breeder.  This is not a small breeder and they have several champions, including USA Siegers in their breeding program.  I guess God put all types of people on this earth for a reason.

Hi Mike,
Do you live in a puppy lemon law state? If so, the breeder is responsible for returning your money and may be even helping to pay for some of your medical expenses.

If you dont live is such a state, then mention that you make the kennel name and address and your story available to everyone that will listen and would consider even complaining to every "ripoff" and "complaint" site you can find.

I would not consider another puppy from that breeder.......2 out of 2 is almost unheard of....

I live in Illinois and that is where the breeder is located.  I just went on the GSDCA.org web site and looked up the Breeder Code of Ethics.  They have a Breeder of Merit tag on their web site, but I can clearly call out violations to the code of ethics stated on the GSDCA site.  I am going to send a message to the Code of Ethics Chair person and tell her my story.  This is not a small breeder and they sell several hundreds of puppies per year.  I should publish her last email to me without her name.  On top of it we had to pay $750 for the necropsy and cremation.

I am trying to cool off before I do anything, but I do have 2 online k9 performance supplement sites that have been online for 6 plus years and thousands of people that will listen to my story.  I should have listened to my wife because she Googled the breeder and lo and behold they showed up on the Rip Off Report.  When I asked the owners husband or boy friend he told me that they tried to work with the people, but there are some you just can't please.  He had already brought out Milo and Rocco and we fell in love with them.  It was a bad decision on my part.  No contract, no bill of sale and when I asked about the Guarantee he said it's stated on their site.  I let my emotions get the best of me instead of my business accumen.

If your breeder isn't willing to work with you,  file a complaint with the GSDCA. Breeders who agree to abide by the breeder's code are expected to do so. Just state the facts and I'm sure you will get results.

Very sorry to hear about little Milo, you must have been devastated. You are the 4th or 5th person I know who has had a young GSD die suddenly from a heart problem. I hope your other dog gives you many years of pleasure.

Don't beat yourself up too badly for not having more business sense. It happens to most of us at one time or another. We see the dog and by that time there is no turning back. Been there myself; after owning dogs for 30 years I too bought a dog I shouldn't have.

Hi Mike,

Please do not publish her email, it is against our TOS but you can write it in your own words. You can also tell your story and name the breeder but understand they may rebut what you say and name you.

BTW, sorry to hear of your loss. RIP Milo.

Regards,
GSD
