Prager - If he can kick butt he's ok ?   In what way ?  You don't imagine a Westminster Show specimen is WORKED ?
I don't know for sure, 'cos I'm not in US and don't know the dog;  but I'd think that highly unlikely.

I think Hans was kidding!

Oh, OK - not used to prager's sense of humour. LOL

The point is that, to me unknown dog on the picture  being a show dog, he probably does not "kick butt" ( do protection and other work) thus, since GSD is working dog, discussion about hocks is a waste of time. That is since GSD must work or else forget about it.
However there are exceptions amongst show dogs and they can actually kick the butt. If that is the case, then again discussion about hocks is not that important since I would forgive such infraction to an excellent working dog.
 Please keep in mind that
not all show dogs are crap. Here is my favorite video ( I do not know the dog persoanlly)  of a 14 mo old GSD  bred  my friend Ota Meloun and his wife Nexx Hartis Bohemia. :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9a2vGMl7pM&feature=related

Yep Hans, I like that dog,  also love Voodoo Hartis Bohemia.  Would love a puppy out of him someday.  Nan  So glad you're back on the forum.

I am not 100% for sure but I think Dallas is that dog's grandsire. Dallas not only was an outstanding show dog he was also excellent at herding and bitework. So I would say there is a very good possibility that the dog has the drive for whatever just maybe hasn't been tested.
I would also say if anyone makes the shows and they are ashamed and disgusted at what they see then just don't go. Stay with the kinds of dogs you like. What you see in the ring may not be how the dog looks at all in a natural stance. Not every showline dog stands and stacks like that all the time. That is exaggerated for the judges.
Hans thanks for sharing that video--what a great looking dog.

Wow, Hans, he's great !  Just proves you CAN have a good working dog that also looks very good and is conformed to
the Breed Standard.  (I didn't actually need to be convinced).  So why can't the AKC see that ?  Why do the AKC and the
UK KC continue to tolerate, even promote, the sorts of showdogs that are a mile away from the example set by the dog
in the video ???   I don't agree that 'show' dogs need not be well-constructed.

vonissk - the only problem with your comment was that the dog in the OP pictures is not standing stacked for the judges,
he's clearly just waiting around ... and he still looks like a heap of ****

Prager, the video is nice, and I am fan of that dog and Voodoo also. But citing that video as an example of these dogs can work, is like showing videos of Secretariat or Affirmed.....yes it is sweet but does it represent 80 percent of breed or 8 percent of breed. I think that's an important consideration, when it come to working ability in a working breed. As for the OP dog, I am sure it was successful in the ring....Congrats!

Cappy won't be passing any of his faults on to his progeny, he is infertile.

Moses has his AKC judging license now, so he can only handle dogs he owns or co-owns.

Suits are no more "strange" ring attire than are hot pants, tanks tops, belly shirts or obese men/women dressed in skin tight jogging suits.

I have some photos of GSL's and GWL's with soft pasterns and cowhocks I'm not posting here. They are not my dogs. Maybe Moses et al should have been asked before using Cappy's photos in this thread.
