Prager

Gustav I agree. But there are such dogs. And if they have it in genotype then they have it in phenotype too. Thus sometimes they are incorporated into the breeding of working dogs usually to improve pigmentation or structure or in typebreeding in order to broaden the genetic pool. However it is a risky proposition and for obvious reasons it is done rarely but it could be succesfull. This is not a breeding for a a novice or faint hearted breeder.
Hundmutter: To answer your question it is the money. Thus it is up to every day good breeders to breed dogs as they were intended  originally by Max v Stephanitz.

Hans - I don't know that it is ALWAYS the money.  I cannot speak of the breeders of the 'established' American &
Canadian Show dogs;  but I genuinely believe there are some breeders in the UK who still stick with "the Alsatian" [for
want of a better description of bigger, deeper, longer, more angulated, 'flat'-backed dogs] for other reasons.  I.E. they
have a genuine preference for this type.  This is reflected in the views of all that percentage of Joe Public who say they
do not 'like' the Germanic / International topline.  (And who always want 'coaties' !)  What these breeders produce, and try to persuade others of the merits of, may be an abomination to you or I;  but they have sold themselves on the idea that their version is the one von Stephanitz was aiming at ...

I think that I would pass on this dog, not my type at all!  Glad somebody likes him.

When I said money I did  not mean  just the breeders  but also meant the registries.  Registries would lose many members if they would put more stringent requirements on the breed. Like that the GSD of show should actually be able to work.

Re: the Kennel Clubs / registries coining it in - ah, how true !  We have been fighting for years to get the UK KC to
realise it may be lucrative to register any and all puppies no matter how badly bred, or where health tests are done
but the results are awful, however it is folly and not in the long term interest of the breed(s).  KC remains unmoved.
Puppy farms and BYB continue ...

Blitzen - after Westminster, I think his pictures are enough in the public domain, already, to cover the OP for this !
Not sure if the same can be said about your revelation of his infertility ?

by Blitzen on 09 July 2012 - 22:07

It is no secret in the US that this dog is infertile, Hundmutter. Using candid photos of other's dogs without first obtaining their permission may not be a good idea. These are not show photos of Cappy that have already been posted to the net by the owners.
