This is an edit to my original post:

In person, not in pictures, I notice that what we call black color on various dogs or young puppies is not the same, either there are degrees or shades of the color black (which contradicts what we know of black) or some of what we call black is not really black but rather charcoal (the darkest degree of grey). What do you think ?!!

I had a bitch who was listed as black in Germany, looked black, but between her toes, she had grey hair. When bred to a sable dog who throws black puppies, she had all bicolors and one sable.

I think either she wasn't true solid blck but bicolor, or she was true solid black but the male mated to had a recessive bicolor and all puppies by chance were bicolor to their Dad's recessive bicolor.

If the male mated to threw blacks then my above assumption is wrong, sorry for that.

Here is my black pup, is he solid black???

by Ibrahim on 25 September 2010 - 18:09

He looks black and the color is real black not  what appears to be charcoal in other dogs and puppies.

Here's my solid black girl pup Koda/Bonnie Litter, she's my newest addition,

You can always tell what their true color is by looking under the tail!

mirasmom,

Very beautiful puppies and so black if I could say. But as they grow up, those black puppies and dogs start having various degrees or shades of solid black color, some of the black dogs actually  look  charcoal not black pls see the above pic I posted, I was wondering about that !

Let me ad this so I would be more clear,

The black color on a GSD of any color is not exactly the same black color on another, various black degrees if I can say that or various shades and I am not talking about pictures, difference of light etc, I am talking about what your eye sees in person not in pictures.
