Jill, thanks for commenting and clarifying about Oscar. The more info people have, the better the decisions that can be made. Very sorry to hear about the Okki/Bandit female.

Felsenschloss, Thostgrund, respectively

Christine,
Okki and Oskar vom Felsenschloss ...littermates   Bred by Frank Schawe    others in the litter        Olsen, Orek, Orion, Otto, Ola, Orla
Gunni vom Parchimer Land.......product of  Okki and Brandi vom Thostgrund     bred by Werner Schulz       littermates...Gero, Gismo, Grizo, Gunther, Gela, Greta

Like I said before..........I know how these two were raised.  If I do not know....without doubt......all factors involved......I will not comment on reasons of a death.  There are so many things that can and  do happen;  accidents, injury, etc.  There is a "pill" for everything and many dogs ...IMO....are "pilled to death".   Many folks just don't keep their dogs the way I prefer to see dogs kept. Been in the breeding business for almost 40 years.....there are the "highs" and then there are the "lows".  I just make the best decision based on what I know at the time.

@Jen

Yes, I have the same edginess in Apache. I think its coming from him being so possessive of everything, even space, that there is that constant being wary having to protect anything that he deems his (if that makes sense). Its difficult to describe; one could call it intensity. However, he lives in the house and is able to settle very nicely and just lay around the entire day if necessary. But dare you to go to the door or grab your coat, then its on. He will act like a JRT, bouncing higher than I stand continuously. He dislocated my thumb twice doing that. No formal correction will stop him. When I am at work he has the run of the house together with my older male Axl. I dont have to worry with him eating the couch, or walls, or cleaning out the trash, or you name it. The only thing he is doing, if there is a paper towel he can get his mouth on, it will be nicely ripped into tiny pieces for me to pick up. Well, I call it Apache's art. He has a very soft and cuddly site to him too, but I think he is more a one person dog. I dont have any kids, but we have several toddlers in our club and I dont have a problem with him going up to them. Its strange, with all his aggression and a$$holyness at times, I trust him more with that than any of my other dogs. He is like Mr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde; two sides to him, but very clear in the head.

Wow, gorgeous stacked picture! He has really grown up!

Aria is 110% trustworthy with James, regardless of how horribly obnoxious he is being. I never worry she will lash out at him for anything, no matter how irritated she is at another animal. She is rock solid in the safety with children department, and to be fair, all of Capri's pups are like that. She adores kids and it seems to be an inherited trait. Aria is  wonderful with the other animals as a whole.  It's only when they try to get closer to us than she is that the snarly face comes out. She isn't edgy all the time...like Apache, it's very distinct, happy or angry. I do wish she had more a lighthearted demeanor *IF* there is anything to the demeanor/bloat thing, but besides that, I love her temperament. She is pretty balanced overall, imo. Capri is intense, but not all the time. When she relaxes, she relaxes; she doesn't look for threats. If Aria was a person I'd say she's a pessimist, and her mother is an optimist (with a dark side). LOL

I hope other people find tracking down temperament traits as interesting as I do. I think it's hugely important for breeding.

I wonder if more Ron (or Ricky, or Rex,or Roland) offspring owners would chime in and tell their temperamental experiences?

Jenni - I have a Rex daughter who is over-the-top in drives.  She didn't start to settle down in the house until she hit around 5 years old, still jumps like a JRT (will be 7 in a few days), lives for fetch or agility and takes it very serious and fast, tries to "catch" cars (sometimes barking at them) when riding in the backseat as they pass by, and gives 110% to everything.  She is not a social dog and is rather sharp... which is why she hasn't done much as far as trialing as I never know when someone will irk her and she may run to them barking, a big no-no if it's the judge!  I trust her not to bite but she is an intimidating ~ 70 pounds of muscle.  I had one litter with her and they inherited her drives but thankfully not quite over-the-top and with an off-switch early on.  From what I know they all jump like JRTs (which may be why that litter had the joint issues??), and most are also on the sharp side.

Interesting. Who is the dam of your Rex daughter?

I am lucky, I guess, that mine seem to have inherited their mother's excellent balance?  They don't try to catch things that shouldn't be caught (cars, etc.) but they can be a little sharp, I guess by most people's definitions. Aria doesn't jump around and neither does her sister, Anza.

I wasn't aware of joint issues; do you mean your litter had joint issues or Rex's? Ron had a zw of like 64 when I researched him as a stud.

Jenni - The litter from Rex's daughter (whose mother was Reika Grafental).
