Jyl
Thanks for putting up the links, one i have seen the circus act the other kept stop and starting. I am not knocking the Dog Mailo, that would a stupid thing for me to do when i do not even know how the dog works, and i am sure the owner can see in the dog things a video will not pick up in normal day to day living.
Kit Kat
Thanks for your comments, but i never spend hours on the video except one time when i was looking and analzying the Dogs being bred and pedigrees and mock breedings, when i was looking for a suitable Puppy it took over a year to do and find that breeding, and the result was Gina. so since then i never bother much. i like to see good Dogs working with top handlers that is the only way you can see what faults you have in your own training, Plus i go to a lot of Trials and watch it live.
Why i say the video is like a circus act a Guy in our club was showing us only last week how his new puppy is getting on, He was doing the same as the handler with Mailo, it is no big deal; the only thing was Mailo Barked, the Puppy Squeaked, but seeing it was only 13 weeks old it did well. then the owner said play time was nearly over work will soon start

Russ and Parrish,
Thank you for taking the time to clear this up. Especially in light
of those who took the time to play telephone and 'make it their business',
even when they claimed they had so much going on in their own lives Roll eyes
It's pathetic that some petulant twits want to try to spin more into comments
made by both myself and Hexe. I stand by my comment, when I first read that
Mailo was to be bred to an untitled bitch with no OFA/A stamp, I was very
disappointed. I had thought (and was dead on right) that Parrish had much higher
breeding standards than what was portrayed here by what boils down to a BYB
.
It's sad that trust was given so easily by Russ that all was in order on the bitch owners
end. Just goes to show you, don't take anything for granted in the dog world ,
because as per usual, things are not always as they seem Wink Smile

As for Mailo, his video posted here is hardly what I would refer to as 'circus tricks'.
What that video shows is a dog who actually loads and builds power from being
asked for total control. An excellent trait in a dog, most fold under pressure like that.
If you try to look outside the 'B' routine, you would see what the video was actually
showing. Mailo looks to be a very strong dog indeed, and able to maintain drive and
power while under precise control. Hopefully he produces very nicely for this country.
Congrats on another very nice male Parrish! Thumbs Up

I guess  the circus bit is aimed at me seeing that i said it. Well, over here the same thing it is easily done with a months training as i said a guy has a 13 week old pup doing the same but he will not keep it up i know his reason for doing it with such a young pup.
My point is that it is NOT training for IPO and i can or will tell you why. The dogs postition is not correct it is etheir leaning on or it is leaving a Gap. You do not want a dog leaning on the handlers leg there should be a slight gap some 10 centimeters or so the dog should be postioned so it is looking up at the handler BUT its body is in line with the handlers leg not with the dogs butt stuck out at an angle and if that dogs stance is not changed i will tell you the outcome if kept going the same way. the dog will eventually be walking in front of the handler? meaning the handler will be walking into the dog as they go along, it happens so often. All these facts lose points, and in IPO you cannot afford to lose points just because to some it looks good. Me, i do not believe in doing things with Dogs just to make a video look good or to impress others. The aim if you are in the IPO sport is to do the job correctly so you gain as many points as possible.
My Dog Gina will back step, side step, walk through legs turn on a sixpence and nearly do a bloody back flip but it is just a little bit of fun for the dog after work just some times but not make a habit of it. but never to try to impress others and i add some not really in the know as what what IPO sport work is about. To those folk it is done to impress, For me it certainly does not. an old miserable Grouch i may be but i sure am not a stupid one.

Finally Yes, The dog is a little under pressure doing it, But nothing like the pressure of working out fully in a competition on a strange work field; then when the Handler asks the Dog to see if it can take pressure, it is a different ball game
to end this i will say that i have a lot of respect for Mr Evans i have talked a couple of time,s by email with him and he is a man with views on the breed much like my own. He wants what is best to help the breed in generations to come not just the present, It seems he is one of the very few where money is not the motivation. and so it is with me for when Gina is bred from the first 5 pups go Free to handlers of repute who i know will look after the Pup and take it to its full potential in the IPO Sport and along the way will see that all health checks and Koering is done as a matter of course. then perhaps in some small way i can leave behind a little bit to help the breed go further, who knows the Father of the Pups may be Bomber

The routines shown here are much like the AKC advanced and excellent rally, CDX, and utility class exercises. Dog obedience is dog obedience. The biggest difference I can see is that in those classes all routines are done off lead, we are not allowed to touch our dogs, when retrieving the DB,  the dog must sit in front of the handler never touching him or her and dogs are not permitted to lean on the handler. Not  NQ's on their own,  but substantial deductions that could end up in a NQ total score.

BTW IMO this dog has very correct conformation and is of excellent breed type. As far as his working abilities, I'll leave that opinion to the board working dog experts.

Steve I know you are smarter than me but I have a question. You said you might someday breed your bitch to bomber but in an earlier post on this thread you stayed you would never give a puppy up. We have all read what Parrish said that he does not take stud fees an we have all read that you said you only pay cash. How is that breeding going to work.

by workingdogz on 15 July 2013 - 12:07

The 'experts' may read into it what they want. I never once suggested anything,
I simply made a statement that I would be very disappointed had the breeding of
an untitled and non-health tested bitch happened with a male of Mailo's
caliber and quality. I have in fact recommended several people, and will continue
to do so to Parrish for well bred puppies. Would he have been the first person to
surprise me by doing a breeding lacking important criteria? no, and had he done it,
I would have likely continued to recommend him, but with caveats as to making sure
the bitch was a breedworthy bitch, not some run of the mill bitch. If that offends Parrish,
so be it. Lucky for me, I could give a flying f*ck what others think of me or what I wrote,
particularily when those that try to cast shade on myself  for having an opinion have been
less than ethical
and honest in their breedings and general animal husbandry practices. Shades Smile
