Mailo is indeed a very nice dog. He has a lot to offer to the breed.
I know you don't agree with regards to the control work being done in
the one video you refer to as 'circus tricks' Steve, but, if you stop and
think about it, when teaching or polishing, you don't 'just' do trial procedure.
You tweak and use different things to enhance the overall performance.
So while you may not be impressed by the "circus trick' video, it does
indeed offer some insight into how much frustration and drive building
the dog can take before being freed up and rewarded etc. When you first
started teaching Gina the retrieve over the a frame, you didn't do the entire
regulation trial procedure I bet, I would bet you pieced together and tweaked
different things to get her to where you wanted. Sure, prepping for testing
you will do procedure, but, I don't know of anyone who does straight up trial
training only. They pull out a whole bag of tricks to use in their training.
Sometimes video of the bag of tricks training can offer some clear insight into
how the dog handles pressure. With Mailo, not once did he go down in drive or
shut down etc, he instead built drive and would seemingly try harder and quicker Wink Smile

I have already told you that Gina can do all that Mailo does, and it is used to keep the dog alert and happy and it is play but only for a couple of minutes and i call it a circus act because to me that is what it is, What i did not agree with was making a video of it just for the purpose of impressing others, and some not in the know will be suitably impressed and they certainly are by the comments made on this forum. so as my own Dog can do excatly what this Dog is doing i liken it to Circus Tricks but for fun as said above? NOT to try and impress gullible people; I would have been more impressed to see a good video of the dog working on trial obedinence and going through say a sequence of protection proper like going around the blinds bark and hold after the blinds and footing and a proper decent long attack? then you can see something about the dog
Okay i look at things in a different light to many not to say i am right or any of you Guys are, it is what i think and i saw things in that video where the dog would not benifit should it be put competition work in IPO if they continued to train it that way. As i said perhaps i am outdated old grouch of a Guy but i know what i want and i know what i want to see in a dog, right or wrong that is my opinion

Steve,
No problems, we all have our preferences. I personally like to see
a dog working in many different aspects, not just a trial routine.
Many times simple training video can show you 'holes' in the dog.
They all have them, just have to decide what is too big of a hole to step over Wink Smile
All said and done, Mailo is a very nice dog, seems to be very strong and able
to maintain drive and seems to get stronger when pressure is applied and no
'reward' is given to achieve the drive, he seems to thrive on the pressure to
maintain control. Not a bad quality to have in a dog at all.Thumbs Up

Steve can you please post some videos of your dog doing this (circus tricks) and also doing IPO work?  I have never seen your dog and she sounds amazing.

if i had a video taken of my dog doing circus tricks then i would be just the same as the video i am refering too that will not happen
I have however been trying on many occasions to get someone to video her working? to date nothing much to my dissapointment. but i will. Just have a little patience and you will see her working in the 2014 Belgian National Trials early next year. Then you can have your say and pass your comments then. In the meantime if i can get a video of her working NOT PLAYNG about but a video which shows what the dog can do or not i will
