The UKC papers have the pedigree it attached to them--sort of like the SV papers. Again nothing but UKC tutles on there, And UKC won't even list the hip rating. If you have an AkC dog with "PI" listed--which means Permanant Identification ie chipped or tatooed they are on the registration papers as such. I don't understand that because they claim to be for the Total Dog. Oh well just wanted to throw that in.

"Total Dog" eh ?  Hhmmmn ....

We got them to start recording Tattoo numbers on papers several
years ago now, and then subsequently they added Microchip numbers -
so the KC are ahead of the game on that point, at least.  (I think they
have also started putting something on about DNA where that exists -
not sure, as its so long since I registered a dog).

I keep hearing "no club within 2, 3 or 4 hours from where I live............

Only you can fix this.........

START A CLUB!

I sat on my butt for years making this same complaint.......finally decided to become part of the solution and started a club this past year.

Put ads in craigslist and google classified ...... "starting schutzhund club in ______". You might be amazed on the interest you get.

UScA, WDA, AWF, DVG, and the rest will be happy to help with answering all questions and forming your club.

The biggest hurdle of starting a club is finding a helper for a new club. We hired helpers for a while, offered a minimum amount for showing up or 20$ a dog which ever was higher. I searched for helpers in all venues of dogsport and finally found one...... A young strong man from ring sport who can read dogs and had good moves, a good communicator with a passion to teach. This person never jams a dog and is happy to teach both obedience and do helper work. He has been learning IPO rules and is doing a fantastic job! He will become certified in October. Yes he still has his own ringsport club, but he has also become our trainer/helper...

Since starting my club, another club has also formed in our area........so from 1 club that was not welcoming, now we have 3 clubs in our city. The non-welcoming club, the club that is super title focused and our club, a laid back club that takes all the rejects, has lots of fun and trains dog. Funny thing is that recently 2 clubs came together for a mock trial and the td of the super focused club was amazed at how well our dogs are doing, even the dogs he rejected...

I hosted a helper seminar..........over 20 signed up for working spots! Yes I worked hard and was able to supply enough titled dogs so 2 helpers could run thru the dogs and never had to take a break. I've hosted traveling helpers and set up private lessons for anyone who wanted to sign up.

In October the other new club has scheduled a helper seminar and certification.  In November the 2 new clubs will be holding a joint event.........club trial, regional show and breed survey... we're bringing in a SV Koermaster in for our show and breed survey and a SVF judge will oversee the trial.

Our sport doesn't have to be on the decline........I keep hearing excuses, and so few solutions. I'd like to think I'm part of a solution..

AKC will add IPO titles to registration for title that have been awarded for GSDCA-WDA trials and shows.

Hund I think putting the ID #s or letters chip/tatoo) is a good thing. So yep you guys are ahead..............Now do they put the h/e ratings on the registration papers? Here only if they have the PI on the OFA results. It was my understanding any dog's stuff that was submitted to OFA had to have a chip or tatoo but I guess it is only to get the results and #s on the papers. Personally I think it should be a requirement.........Go figure that one out...........again things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

To: START A CLUB!

A: LAND
B: INSURANCE
C: HELPER
D: PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLED TO ACTUALLY JOIN!

BTDT

1: Can't use City Land
2: Insurance is not affordable
3: No Helper
4: There is no one in this god forsaken place that wants to commit

PS: I've luckily found a club within an hour and became a provisional member but still have no tracking land. So that is the next obstacle...

Moral of the Story: It really depends WHERE you live. It's not that easy to just go and open a club if you don't have the localities or resources and it makes me angry when people assume that you haven't even tried to get people together.

I've offered free training groups on post, off post, and whenever the day is there no one shows up. Sorry, I'm no longer wasting my time if people just won't commit to it!

excuses, excuses......

insurance is not cheap, (600 a year) but membership dues pay for this.
the other club uses a city park for their practices, we use my back yard or a nearby park.
go out and find a helper! find interested individuals and train them........we did!
our club is only 7 months old and already have plenty of members. we have 7 serious members and another 10 who are part timers.

dues are 300 with WDA membership...........it has paid for insurance, equipment and our affiliation show..........
we also have plenty of interest and each week we have a few newbees coming to see what its all about.

excuses, excuses.......
if you don't try you'll never become part of the soulution.

BE-

I agree its hard to start a club but

In some places you can use city land.  I was in a club(before i moved) that we all met at a city park that was isolated that not many people knew about. Its not illegal to use public land. Just have to find somewhere that isnt heavily populated. Used to go to various isolated parks for protection and other state properties for tracking too. Power line and gas cut overs. fields in state parks. etc...... I even used to go around talking with land owners and made agreements with a couple of simply keeping fields mowed and ponds weed eated for them, so we could use the land once a week etc.... Its possible, just have to put the work in. There are a lot of farmers and or land owners that are more than happy to lease land for small fees and or just simply some occasional help with the property. You just have to talk to people.

helpers- well us that were trainers just taught all the decoys how to do helper work. and yes we had a bunch show up a couple times and role out. but there was a strong core of about 5 of us that were there training everyones dogs. but our only club fees were food and beverages for the bbq after training. or babysitting dogs when other went somewhere. or pitching in on gear. and what we saved in club fees we generally spent trialing , going to seminars, helper camps/seminars etc... so we all got better.

so just saying its possible. you just have to have committed friends with a good attitude. And at least 1 or two that knows what they are doing. Were there is a will there is a way.

and i believe you said your husband was a specialist in the army. so if that is the case i know money doesnt grow on trees for an e-4. but it doesnt take as much money as some believe. It does for the regular customer. But i found high end trainers, when i was starting to simply want to pass on there knowledge as they love the person that digs deep and is committed to learning in depth. This is why the serious top guys got into training. They love when someone has an open mind, listens, is intelligent, dedicated, and eager and simply want to pass everything on as this type person helps them, their business, and most importantly the dogs.
--------------

And as far as people stating clubs "dont let people in easily". well just my experience here, but ive never been to a club (not saying they arent there) that wasnt welcoming. I think its more the mentality that a person goes in with to either being accepted or turned away.

JMO---- and i know this is generalization and not in every single case.

Nevermind, not worth getting worked up who doesn't know shit about the localities and circumstances of other people...

by SitasMom on 25 July 2013 - 15:07

Baerenfangs Erbe what city is this? - just want to know so I never even think to move there.
is it also illegal to have dogs off leash on personal property that is properly fenced?

what about renting an acre of land from a farmer just outside your city for club meetings?
for trials, hay fields or plowed fields or sod farms owners will be happy to take a few $$$ to give access.

it will take a little extra doings to create a club in an anti dog city, but still its doable.
