" But once they realize what kind of commitment is involved they just don't or can't do it. "
Forget points A - D, the important part is written down in your sentence above. I didn´t give up for decades now, because I love this breed, and if there is one person at times like SitasMom, I still do have some hope.

" You may have spent a lot of time in the US but it doesn't look like as if you truly understand the culture. "
I think I did, that´s the reason why I went back to Germany - I´m too much of a German...

The cost of shipping dogs to Germany for training has gone up in the past few years. What once was an option, this is becoming too expensive. Breeders who did this in the past are having to scramble.. they are looking for help. Our little club now has a couple of these owners interested in joining. They know little or nothing about training and get frustrated easily. Same with breeders who have sent their females over seas for breeding, its becoming economically impossible. The cost of young titled and bred females has also gone up.  I think this will be overall positive for the sport here in USA.

As far as Regulations - AKC will never adopt SV style breeding regulations. We are just a small, very small portion of the owners and will never be able to get anything like that passed. WDA strongly suggest using FCI breed standard and also UScA. Even with this, working dog breeders usually do not get show titles or breed surveys as its not important to them. American breeders can sell puppies with limited registration until hips/elbow are certified and the pup has a show and working title, but they are not willing to do this.

Many breeders are not willing to share their understanding of bloodlines, some experienced breeders charge for their expertise. Breed wardens are not required so people just go from one "super dog" to the next and are disappointed with the results.

Finding stud dogs in America is almost impossible. The AKC doesn't give owner's information out, and they will not relay messages to the stud owners. Finding a good stud is almost like finding a needle in the haystack. Google searches on the internet is about all we have.

Finding a puppy buyer that says they are going to train and title their puppy and one that actually does in very rare. Most let their puppy free in their homes and do no socializing and very little training and call 6 months later to ask why their puppy wants to attack other dogs and why it won't listen. Dogs have become "furbabies" and owners give human traits to their dogs.

Most buyers want couch potatoes instead of GSD's with correct temperament. They want low energy puppies, the lower the better.

Not sure how to "fix" all these problems....not sure if there's a fix.

Good for you.

I was thinking about going back for the time my husband is deployed and title my dogs.. Problem is, I wouldn't have anywhere to stay with four dogs because invading my parents place with the dogs, is not an option.

The issue is, most likely you won't get anywhere. Just my bitch for example. She's three years old. She's a top notch female and has what it takes to go to nationals and beyond. I know, everyone says it, but she's truly got it all. She's three years old now. In one years, she's basically to old to even be sold as a "young prospect". She should have the 3 already but because we live here, it's not going to happen anytime soon. Especially not if I can't find any tracking land. So not giving up is great. Problem is, it just won't get you anywhere and people are tired of it. They venture into different activities because you want to see progress. Others said "Why don't you just do protection once a month instead?"

Excuse me? Once a month? Two years for an IPO1? Seriously? Nope! Putting all that money into a dog, no progress, being on a standstill and two years for a 1?

Not reasonable. Every person with a  little Education in Business Practices will scream in agony over dumping so much money into "ein Fass ohne Boden."

Baron you are so right. I'm not making excuses either but my situation is almost yours...........distance. people unwilling to commit--I have an experienced OB trainer on my team and we tried to put together just a basic low cost class--the vet has a big lot right on the highway--we could use that--not one call.............NOT ONE.............we had made flyers and advised people to just show up--we were there and noone..........So I do what I can on my own--regarding OB in different places etc etc. I have a place to train--I can get land to use for tracking, but I can't make people show up that don't want to..............Back to bitework now. I love bitework--like most it's probably my favorite part of the whole deal.......aside from having no helper and the mentality of the law enforcement here, I'd just rather not even try to do it..........They think they are viscious so I prefer to not feed them anything more than they can handle. Just my thoughts.................
Sita I am glad for you that it has all worked out but you and I and others are located in different places--I think the area you're in there is a bigger commitment to dog sports..........of all venues---all the ideas you proposed I've processed in my head. When I first moved back here-10 yrs ago, I was going to do this and that...but it never happened--the people that live here are uninterested and the tourists would rather leave their dog in the car while they gamble rather than drop them off at a  day boarding place in the ac and possibly a bath................but it's just not happening....................not whining or excuses, just facts.................

@troopscott, because for once I would like to stick with a club and stay within an hour and the helper is good and willing to put his time into us. Not going to turn my back on him now.

ps: I had checked him out before. Too expensive and not my cup of tea.
