If people want a dog with a mastiff head, why dont they just go get a mastiff and quit screwing with our breed? I personally do not care for the blocky heads, short ears and short muzzles... JMO...

The chinese videos made me feel sad for the dogs :( People just wont quit messing with this breed for their own whims :( Oh what a piece of work is man......

As awful as those coarse Mastiff heads, excessive dewlaps, excessive loose skin, weak dysfunctional rears, etc look in the males, it makes me wonder, what do their bitches look like?

OMG :( I am sure it is a  loving dog, but that is NOT what a GSD is supposed to like like :( Viewing straight on it looks like a mutt- maybe a GSD/mastiff mix...Maybe to them it looks normal because they have many mastiff breeds in that part of the world that originated there?

by joanro on 31 July 2013 - 12:07

It seems to me that if mastiff was in the mix here, the rears in these dogs would not be so over angulated. All the mastiff breeds I can think of are pig-legged in the rear, front too for that matter....other words straight through stifle and hock to the extent of being hyper extended in those joints....so I doubt these dogs are mastiff crosses. You don't get to pick and choose which traits are going to be expressed when crossing breeds. You don't get to say; I only want huge round heads with steep stop, big smushed faces, too much skin, keep the coat texture and color, and keep the roach back and drag ass.

I agree, Joan. As awful as it seems, I think this is a result of selective breeding within the GSD breed.  Sad Smile

Short head, short back. For every action, a reaction. No other breed/s.....it's the power of selective breeding in a species where multiple births are the rule. Carp backs are another good example. Man had/has 100% control over what the breed looks like today and what it will look like in the future; that happens without introducing another breed.

SS, It's the only logical conclusion. Wouldn't surprise me if a really distorted specimen came along that struck the fancy of these owners, and that dog was cloned. There is the technology now to clone dogs and the money exists in China these days for such exorbitant waste.

by joanro on 31 July 2013 - 13:07

True, Blitzen. And to increase the odds for this monstrosity within the litters, just clone the crap out of the ones that fit the perverted type the owners desire.
