Those colors don't go away; people just drown the poor babies and don't mention they ever existed, so the next person breeds the standard colors from those breedings and voila! Here they are again. Alas, my bucket was missing when I was watching these guys being born, so they got lucky. Tongue Smile

I asked the stud owner if he'd thrown blues before and he said he had one last year, none prior and none since, and hadn't even thought to warn me about it with THAT breeding- it's a total outcross- they could not be more different! He said the one blue from last year comes to his club every Sunday and is doing very well and is a very nice dog. He ended up being his breeder's pick of the litter based on temperament and type, so she kept him (for training, not for breeding).

The pup on my crotchfruit's (still LOL at that term, hexe) lap is the female blue sable. He said "this moose is my favorite." LOL. She is the biggest pup- what a chunk. I think the light is showing the very red undertones. Her hairs appear to be blue tipped red hairs. She's also pictured solo and I think it's more clear. I believe she's going to be a patterned sable; her undercoat is quite red. The 2 blue boys appear to be blue and tans. At first I thought they were going to be sables like Aria, substituting blue for black, and the girl was the one "supposed" to be a black and red, but as time wears on, I see reddish feet and solid otherwise, so guessing they're really black and reds....blue and reds.

Even the poofy puppies have very good undercoat already, and their texture is identical to the others. It sure doesn't make identifying them any easier.

Blue looks liverish in some lights.  Blues as puppies are way prettier
than as adults.  Commiserations, Jenni.  Hope they make up for it in
working ability, structure etc.  And yes, as you say, when the solid
blues are older if they go really dark, many cannot see the difference
from Black - if they are stock coated. Blue sable = even better.
My experiences are mainly around long coats, both solid and saddle,
so it was always pretty obvious.  But at least they will find buyers.

Cute puppies!  The first pic i looked at i thought it looked like a Doberman litter lol.
But yeah there should be no prob finding homes for the "wrong colors."  And i am sure the same issue ,(disappearing pups), was happening with the LSC pups, well at least they did till some group said-  oh ok you can have them now, the extra inch and a half of fur is acceptable  :)

Yeah, Bravo was also lucky I couldn't find my bucket. LOL. Nadeem, remember how I was agonizing over what kind of coat he'd have and interrogating you, trying to make sure you still wanted him even if he ended up being a hairy monster? I'll never forget that- my first coated pup and he was NORMAL for so long, then BAM! Fuzz everywhere! Ah, memories. Teeth Smile

Hundmutter, it is your OPINION that they are way prettier as pups than adults.Wink Smile  On the contrary, I'm finding that many people feel they're beautiful as adults; that "off black" shiny steel color does have its following. You can hardly find good pics of nice looking blues because 99% of blues in pics floating around online are from $h!t breeding stock to begin with........snipey- nosed, collie- headed, fine-boned crap, plagued with health problems (not because they're blue, but because they're crap that some idiot bred to be blue out of dogs with poor genetics for health). We don't see "good" blues because people are too gutless to acknowledge them and want to sweep them under the rug rather than own up to the fact that egads, their high dollar stud dog or brood bitch carries for an unacceptable color!  Sorry, but if health, temperament, working ability, etc. are unaffected, as they are by color in the case of blue, then they're drowning puppies for political reasons, and I think that's disgusting. Cull to improve and strengthen, not to hide things.

I hate to sound so biased, but frankly, I don't see how Aria and Filius, looking like they look, and with their genes, could produce a puppy as ugly as what some tout as beautiful if it were green and bald. I don't feel any good dog is truly ugly, and I try to simply avoid comment on dogs I do not find appealing. I didn't do the breeding for looks. I like good looks- I think I've produced some good-looking dogs, but of course that's my opinion only. Temperament (includes working ability), for me, comes even before health, just by a hair, and then looks (including structure). Who cares if the crappiest dog in the world lives forever? LOL. The goal was a certain temperament and I knew with an outcross, they may be different than I'm used to, but look where bottlenecking has gotten us...

Hey Jen, whatever I post is only ever my own opinion ... LOL.  I know
only too well there are many folk out there who positively fancy Blues,
I don't even DISlike 'em myself  -  but I don't think we were ever encouraged
by the 'founding fathers'  to deliberately create more of them.   I believe you
were not expecting this litter to include Blues, [rather than setting out to breed
to get Blues to sell,] and ...it's a crap shoot.  I'm certainly not an advocate for
the bucket.  But I base my opinion on dogs actually seen and handled, not
Internet pix.

Blue or not, I'd love to have one of these puppies. I owned Ando's half sister, the best dog I ever owned. Sch3, UD, agility and herding titled. Working line people probably don't know how influential Ando and his sire, Cary, were in producing progeny with outstanding work ethics. Anyone interested in a working x showline combo would be well advised to take a look at this litter. I would.
